2025 Comics Thread

That Kirk one would be so much more interesting if it was a novel series rather than a comic.

To be fair there was a one month gap between #2 and #3 of the now ended core series, the #6 and #7 were both in the same month.

I didn't read the tng novels or the original comics, but I really enjoyed reading Star Trek and Defiant, so many silly and crazy callbacks to the TV series, but also kind wild. Biggest criticism was the writing seemed kind of punchy and not grounded enough, but I assume maybe🤷‍♂️ it works better as a monthly series instead of as a collection as I read it.

Mainly I just wanted to see what happened to Sisko and Worf after DS9.

I will take this post down if it's frowned upon, but currently there is a Humble bundle offer for Star Trek comics from the recent past to present where you can get literally hundreds of books for about 24 dollars. All proceeds from the sale go to the Comic Book legal Defense Fund.

Well, I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I tried to get you in trouble for posting this!

FWIW, here's my take on the rules:
  • If you are letting members know about a good deal that you, or someone close to you, has no personal stake in, then it's OK. You'll notice we have a long-running thread on eBook deals that illustrates this.
  • If you're trying to encourage sales of something of yours, or that you (or someone close to you, but that's harder to prove) have a personal stake in, that is not allowed.
  • Links to fundraising sites (eg - Kickstarter, GoFundMe, etc.) are never allowed, regardless of whether you have a personal stake or not.
It can be argued that Humble Bundle is a bit of a grey area, because it is raising money for charity. But I look at it as just a regular sales site, where a portion of the sale goes to charity. (And if you just use the default allocation, that percentage is actually quite small.) So in my mind, letting us know about a good Humble Bundle deal is OK. You'll note that I didn't actually link to it in my post, just to err on the extreme side of caution, but I don't personally see any issue with you linking to it here.

Note that these are just my thoughts. Each mod has their own way of interpreting grey areas, so don't necessarily expect Humble Bundle to be treated the same way in other forums. And of course, if the admins told me I was interpreting it incorrectly, I would have to change how I handled it. (The no personal sales and no fundraising sites are board-wide rules that should be applied everywhere, though.)

Personal sales and fundraising are generally permitted in your signature, with the understanding that you don't post about it to try to draw attention to it.
