On a mission to collect gormangander excrement, the U.S.S. Cerritos is attacked by a Ferengi warship! The Ferengi are hot on the tail of a debt dodger who owes them a fortune-D’Vana Tendi. But as a member of Starfleet, Tendi has no way to earn the money to pay them back, and if she tells her family in the Orion Syndicate, they’ll simply murder her to clear the account. One thing is for certain: If Tendi can’t devise a way to clear her ledger, the Lower Deckers are going to find themselves in deep doo, regardless of whether they find any gormaganders.

Fascinating! Federation President Antos in this story uses the name from the recent Star Trek: Omega one-shot coda to Star Trek and Star Trek: Defiant!

Honestly, when I read the name Antos from Star Trek: Omega, I wondered if those authors had botched their research again and forgotten that Bareil Antos from DS9 was dead and used Bajoran name format. But it seems to be a nod to IDW editor Heather Antos, hence President Antos being a human woman with comparable hair color.

Looking forward to Red Shirts, and more promo stuff for Last Starship. Have we had anything at Shoreleave?
IDW has a minimal presense at Shore Leave (I'm at the show now!) No one from their marketing team is here, just some consultants/editors and one artist, j.k. woodward. I'd love to see more from them at this show, but it's mostly legacy authors represented. I bet we'll get more from Vegas in a few weeks

SDCC panel nearly 24 hours after TV Trek taks Hall H:

Star Trek: The Next Frontier
Sunday July 27, 2025 11:00am - 12:00pmPDT
Room 7AB
Whether it's the return of Captain Kirk in The Last Starship or the shocking Red Shirts, this panel is set to spill all of the plans that IDW has for Starfleet this year. Moderated by Heather Antos (group editor) and featuring bold creators Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Christopher Cantwell, Robbie Thompson, Travis Mercer, and Tilly and Susan Bridges, the next frontier of Star Trek comics starts here

I'm curious about Red Shirst, but I'm a little worried that it's going to be nothing but an excuse for a bunch of graphic deaths, which I'm not a huge fan off. I can tolerate it if there's a really good story to go with it, like with shows like The Walking Dead or movies like Gladiator, but if the emphasis is on violence over the story, I tend to lose interest pretty quickly.
I'm still not sure what to make of The Last Starship, the idea of a book set during The Burn intrigues me, but the whole Kirk part feels kind of odd.

Ive read the full first issue if red shirts and its good, but the first panel is a guy losing an eye to a mugato, it's s the most graphic things i think I've seen in a trek book. The rest is a well done story about people in a tough situations doing the impossible things that starfleet security does.

For the last ship, see if you can find the Star Trek Ashcan thst came out this last Wednesday, should be free at your lcs, it has a fantastic black and white preview of The Last Ship, Homecoming, and the new Strange New Worlds book. I was surprised how much i liked all three! Well, not too surprised, I've been diggin all the other work from these creative teams.
