Yes the last Sherman/Schwartz Spock saga also had Admirals Chekov and Uhura.

So I guess it's only Sulu who didn't reach the late 24th Century? Unless he's had his feet up sipping a cocktail on Risa the whole time

The DS9 Day of Honor entry, Armageddon Sky, features an elderly Starfleet officer who goes by the alias of "George" and is very strongly implied to be Sulu.

They've run out of fresh ideas completely.
By the looks of it even the comics aren't selling, NuTrek or not.
So they gotta go back to the tried and tested vault of James T.Kirk, again.
Nauseating.

I don't know if I'd say that, exploring The Burn is a pretty fresh idea, and the concept behind Red Shirts is pretty interesting. I'm also curious to see how their versions of Voyager's return home compares to Pocket's/Gallery's.

It looks like an old, broken-down Constitution class that they pulled out of a scrapyard somewhere. Because Kirk's coming back, so why not go all-in on that TOS nostalgia, you know?

The most likely scenarios to me are that it's a time travel thing and they'll just send him back to the 23rd century at the end, or he's some kind of clone or something like that.

I'm a little fuzzy on the timeline, but wasn't the time travel ban in place by the time of the burn? If so, if Kirk time-travelled to that era, then Starfleet probably wouldn't be able to send him back. I guess Carl could always make a visit, though.

So here's my prediction.

I think they're going to take advantage of that Picard S3 easter egg (which I still dislike, BTW). The Burn happens, and suddenly Starfleet finds themselves in total disarray, and they complain it's just like being thrown back to the earliest days of the Federation, and they have no idea how to handle it. And then somebody is like, "what if I told you we have one of the greatest heroes from that era on ice over on Daystrom Station?". Then they use their 30th-century technology to Lazarus Project him back to life, and the story begins in earnest.

It's kind of thematically similar to how the writers brought Sisko out of the Celestial Temple to deal with the godkiller crisis in the recently-ended Star Trek title.

I'll just leave that there, and then in a few months we can all have a good laugh about how wrong I was.

That one looks like it's starting to blow up? I would guess that's supposed to represent a modern ship getting destroyed in the Burn, similar to that other one that has a bunch of ships blowing up at once. I could certainly be wrong, though. I guess we'll all know in September!

I actually think this could be a pretty good story... but I think it would be even better without shoehorning Kirk in.

I hadn't seen that part of the article in any other articles. Thanks. But maybe worth us remembering the initial covers for the ongoing Trek title were first solicited with a Sovereign Class ship on the cover, and not the Theseus we ended up with.

My one objection to that...

...is that I feel that Kirk's body is an element that the television shows should deal with before the tie-ins. Resurrecting Kirk is just too big. And yes, I know the Shatnerverse did it.

That said, reanimating the Kirk then rejuvenating his body back to his 30s or 40s has some interesitng possibilities -- Kirk, with all of his memories and experience, in the body of a younger man. (To me, the covers look like they feature a young-ish Kirk, not a post-Generations Kirk.)

With this creative team, I can see them leaving the specifics of Kirk's resurrection a mystery until like issue #8 or #9, not unlike in Outsiders where they left the identity of Drummer a mystery until like midway through the series. Have it be a mystery to Kirk himself, and that's part of the journey for him and his crew, navigating not only the Burn but how and why he's alive.

The whole "Theseus" idea -- and I like the idea that the Theseus of the recent ongoing will, in some way be the ship of The Last Starship -- suggests to me that Kirk will be a clone or duplicate with Kirk's memories, and that might be an ongoing thread where Kirk wonders if he's really Kirk.

Given the previous example of them putting a temporary decoy ship on covers to hide the Theseus, I can only assume this started as Cantwell, Kelly, and Lanzing wondering how the Theseus’s unique engines would fare during the Burn, and the idea snowballed into this.

I enjoyed Omega, and this whole era of Trek comics. I hope and assume we’ll come back to a few of the dangling story points and original characters someday. The status of the Defiant in particular would be a point to come back to eventually.

I guess I just don’t think that the shows are going to touch that one. I assume it was just an Easter egg that set design threw in, and wasn’t something anyone on the writing staff deliberately added. If the studio doesn’t have any plans to resurrect him, then they’re probably fine with approving the comics doing so.

I also kind of feel Sisko returning from the wormhole is sufficiently “big”, and would have liked to see that happen on a show. But it’s probably also unlikely to happen, and the tie ins have done it twice now.

Historically, Outsiders has been a Batman-centric super-team from DC Comics. Created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo, the Outsiders were essentially Batman's personal Justice League -- Geo-Force, Katana, Metamorpho, Looker, a couple of others. And Batman would come and go, or reform the team. At one point about twenty years ago, the Outsiders were essentially a Titans team, since Geoff Johns morphed Young Justice into Teen Titans.

The most recent incarnation, which I'm talking about here, by Lanzing and Kelly, had Batwoman and Luke Fox teaming up with the mysterious Drummer to investigate a Planetary guide and whatever happened to the Wildstorm universe. In other words, it was a sequel to Ellis and Cassaday's Planetary. The secret of Drummer was...

...that she was Jakita Wagner, the survivor of the old Planetary team when a multiversal collapse occurred.

That may make no sense, if you've not conversant in Wildstorm.
