2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - Thread

Harry Kane will wear the One Love armband and if they book him, I would gladly walk the team off the pitch.

Plenty of nice call backs for the Christmas themed Three Lions song.

England did its Job against Iran. Wasn't able to see it, just returned from work. I'm currently seeing the Netherlands struggling against Senegal.

I was pretty stunned that we won so comfortably. 6-2 does not flatter England, but maybe flattered Iran. This is not to suggest I'll get carried away. There are far tougher tests, and my suspicion is we won't go further than the quarter-finals, but it's nice to see an England team have a go and score a few goals.

Well that was a big bag of meh. The US came out really strong, but then couldn't adjust well to Wales' changes in the second half. Wales comported themself well. The US was lucky to get out of there with a draw.

That England performance was encouraging from an attacking point of view but defensively we look shaky. Bellingham may be the young player of the tournament.

That point was crucial for Wales because they should overcome Iran.

This is the official mascot of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

I'm from England but Normally like to see any of the home nations do well but having seen the messages coming out the Welsh camp that their biggest aim is preventing England qualifying then hopefully they get hammered tonight.

it's like a cross between the marshmallow man from ghostbusters and casper

Not surprisingly, this has turned into a bit of a training run for France - except their training sessions are probably more competitive and don't feature as many fouls. They're just too good and have too much class. Yet again another disappointing opening game effort from Australia.

As for the mascot, it's not only clichéd but (quelle surprise) sexist. And incredibly bland and unimaginative.

I cut the other "Home Nations" generous slack with this sort of thing as not only has England done more than enough over the years to justify some antipathy, the "I'd like to see all the UK teams succeeded" attitude can in some cases (obviously not always) border on a sense of ownership and entitlement.

I'll wish them well until they play England.

I was shocked to see Argentina lose to Saudi Arabia but i still believe Argentina will go far in this world cup. They are still favorites in my book. I am old enough to remember seeing Argentina lose their opening march to Cameroon at the 1990 World Cup but they later ended up reaching the Final in that same World Cup.

Never underestimate Argentina.

France looked good, and they didn't seem to hit top gear. Granted, Australia were hardly the sternest test they could ask for, but you can only beat who's in front of you.

Argentina looked devoid of confidence towards the end against the Saudis. They are so reliant on 35 year-old Messi, and that's the problem - even at his very best, Messi couldn't do everything, yet Argentina expect it, even now, to the extent where if he isn't fully firing, they don't have a great plan B.

I was delighted with England's result, but I won't get carried away. Iran were poor, and we've got much harder games ahead of us. Assuming we win our group, we'll be on course to meet France in the quarter-finals, and I don't see us overcoming Mbappe and co.

Germany failed miserably against Japan. They will be kicked out by Spain on Sunday. Quite easily, I fear. They could suffer like Brazil did 2014.

South Korea might be tricky for Uruguay tomorrow, too.

Lewandowski missed a penalty against Mexico. But a draw is better than losing a match.
