Canada have to feel hard done after that result, they were really taking it to Belgium and deserved the win.

Germany may have lost the game, but the statement the players made before it was excellent. Screw FIFA.

Ronaldo a clear dive for me to win the penalty.

Both football and soccer were the losers in that match...

So Australia won a game. Good on 'em. We actually looked almost reasonable at times in the half I saw, too.

Top drawer goals in the Argentina - Mexico game. Otherwise dire viewing. Hard to see Argentina getting much further (unfortunately) if they don't vastly improve.

Watching Match of the Day Top 10 on BBC and there discussing their all-time World Cup XI. So, who would you pick in yours?

I'm going with a 3-5-2 so I can fit in a few of the attacking players I want...

    GK - Gordon Banks

    RWB - Cafu
    CB - Beckenbauer
    CB - Bobby More
    CB - Paolo Maldini
    LWB - Roberto Carlos

    CDM - Lothar Matthaus
    CAM - Zinedine Zidane
    CAM - Diego Maradona

    FW - Pele
    FW - Ronaldo (BrazIl R9)

Did anyone else hear “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” while the US and England were playing their match?
ETA: It was funny hearing it while English fans were singing “God Save the King.”

How the hell was that a penalty in the Uruguay - Portugal game? Was the Uruguayan bloke supposed to make his hand dematerialise or something? The handball law is a joke.

The only good thing is Narcisso didn't get to take it. But really. Laughable stuff. To top it off, there were a couple of Portugal players in the D as Bruno kicked it, so it shouldn't have counted.

ETA: I don't usually have any time for pitch invaders, but good on that bloke. Hope he gets out of Qatar in one piece.

Uruguay has its history with handballs. At least the referee didn't get biting marks by Luis Suaréz.

Uruguay did struggle most of the time and Portugal got its revenge for 2018. It doesn't make Portugal favorite for the final.

I think France is going to advance there.

Germany is too smug after the draw against Spain. Costa Rica won't be easily beaten with three or more goals. Fuellkrug is good for the German team as striker, though....

So much for my predictive powers. I'm...quite okay to have been wrong, though. Good on 'em. Off to find a replay / better highlights than what I watched earlier.

That penalty award for Argentina is appalling. Thank god it was saved.

I think we'll beat Senegal, but then we run into France, and it's goodnight. Argentina should beat Australia, and France will beat Poland, and elsewhere, the Dutch would be fancied to beat the USA. Nothing is certain mind.

It would have been really cool to see Costa Rica hold on against Germany so both the Germans and Spain would have been knocked out, but oh well.
