Ive been taking advantage of the downtime and going back to older books I never read before. I'm currently on the eugenics wars volume 1 by greg cox. I put this series off for a long time, because I just thought it would be boring. I finally started it, and I'm really enjoying it alot. I didnt think following Roberta Lincoln would be interesting and engaging, but I was proven wrong.

I found those two books fascinating, esp. how he tied in actual real world events to his story and how he explained how the Eugenics Wars could have happened. He obviously did his research.

Don't forget the 3rd book, The Rise and Fall of Khan... which follows Khan between Space Seed and TWOK on Ceti Alpha V. If you like he Eugenics Wars you'll love that book. He explains the various inconsistencies between the two, even some I didn't even pick up on. And it explains why Khan was the way he was in TWOK and why his need for vengeance became his only reason to live, and why Khan's group looked like members of the band Cinderella ;).

When there is news or a rumour or anything, it'll be posted in this forum, most likely in this very thread. It really is unnecessary to ask for periodic updates.

No, none at all.

Yeah, I know. I was just having a moment of frustration. I'm halfway through the latest Voyager book and I have to pick up the next Prometheus novel. But after that there's not a whole lot on the horizon.

And it's a nagging fear I have that a new publisher is going to come to town, decide all they care about is Discovery, Abramsverse Trek and the original series and decide to mothball all the other series, relaunches and all.

I know, I have absolutely nothing to base that on. I'm a big Dallas fan (the TV series) and I still haven't forgiven TNT for ending the revival series the way they did, with about 50 loose ends and unresolved storylines. That's my fear for the relaunches, there's a lot going on, a lot of storylines that are meant to be continued and I worry that they will all just end.

Spock would say I'm being irrational. But the longer things go on with absolutely no word, the easier it is to speculate on doomsday scenarios.

Without a new contract soon, doesn't that put the early part of 2019 in jeopardy?

Sooo. Should the thread be renamed? Or should we keep it "2018 releases" even in 2019 as a sort of in-joke?

Knew I was going to forget a lot of Tor counterexamples. Sorry, Greg.

No apology required. I'm sure I forgot some examples as well.

Did I mention that Tor once published a WILLOW board game. Our one-and-only venture into game publishing, which was slightly before I started work there? And then there were the DEATH DEALER novels, based on the Frazetta paintings, and most of the original "V" novels as well.

And this is where I recall editing at least four MORTAL KOMBAT books, based the movies.

I had to look up the Willow game; 5.7/10 on Board Game Geek. Certainly the design and pieces look good. But I have absolutely no memory of it. And I'd lost interest in the V novels long before Tor took over as publisher.

I sort of remember seeing the Death Dealer novels, but most of those Frazetta paintings are forever associated in my mind with the Karl Edward Wagner "Kane" paperbacks published by Warners in the 70s...

Did I mention we did FREDDY KRUEGER kid's books? This was back when GOOSEBUMPS was the hottest thing in publishing and everyone wanted their own kid's horror series.

In fact, the very first tie-in I ever worked on was the official movie novelization of WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE, published by Tor way back when.

Wow. "Freddy Krueger's Tales of Terror" YA series. The publishing world is a strange and wacky place...

Let's see. We've done plenty of movie novelizations: CONAN THE DESTROYER, FRIGHT NIGHT, CUTTHROAT ISLAND, MORTAL KOMBAT, MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION, VIRUS, STEEL, MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS, GARGANTUA, EVENT HORIZON, KULL THE CONQUEROR, SPECIES 2, GHOSTBUSTERS, THE WOLFMAN, and even a tie-in to the original TV version of THE AVENGERS, which I reprinted in hopes of cashing in on the Uma Thurman movie. (Steed and Emma, I mean, not the Marvel heroes.)

We done plenty of gaming tie-ins, too: HALO, etc. In fact, I just recently edited a line of Weird Western novels based on the DEADLANDS role-playing game.

I just thought of another piece of evidence that whatever is going on is bigger than the books. We still haven't heard anything about any Trek comics outside of the TNG/Mirror Universe and the Disco minis stuff. For a while they had the two ongoing series (the Kelvin comics, and New Visions), and a miniseries all going at once, which meant that each month had at least two or three comics Trek comics coming out. But now both of those series are over, and we've only gotten hints about the future of the Kelvinerse series. Right now we do have the TNG/MU and Disco, but by August the Disco series will be over, and the only comic coming out is one TNG/MU issue.

^ Also, I can see them probably wanting to "pump the brakes" on the post-Beyond Kelvinverse material until they have a better idea of where the next movie's gonna go -- now that they've finally settled on a director (and Tarantino's overseeing his own stuff for the time being), the broad storyline is closer to being locked down, and they can figure out where the tie-ins can proceed from there.

I wouldn't worry too much about the comics at the moment. IIRC, it is still possible for something to be announced before the year's end. Besides, as Leto_II indicated, IDW likely just put their Kelvin material on hold due to a new movie being developed, and they don't have anyone from production coordinating with them on what they can or can't do like Orci with the first three movies.

And before anyone starts, I know Orci wasn't involved with Beyond in the end, but he was at the start and would still have been steering Trek comics around what they could or could not cover.
