2018 Releases

Really dissapointing. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but at some point I would rather admit that Kirsten just can't be the sole writer for Voyager anymore. Let others take it over who can devote the time to allow more than one book every two years. I hate to say it because her novels have been one of the highlights of Trek lit for many years, but others could do a good job too.

I also feel like this is being done to help soften the blow of what I'm assuming will be a big gap in new releases bewteen this 'final 2017 publishing year' book and the first of the 2018 books jnder the new contract.

Not really. The book already was the January 2018 release.
Obviously I was referring to the fact that it was going to be published and released in the last week of 2017; just as all "January Trek books" come out in December of the previous year. You are quite familiar with this fact. This is not a new thing.

Well can't deny but this third I believe postponement for the next VOY book is disappointing, and have seen online that a few fans are wondering if Architects of Infinity will ever be published. Of course will resolve to be understanding about why this novel keeps getting delayed, as there are extenuating circumstances reported, but with this latest setback it's harder to stay as positive about the situation.

Does any one know why the release date for books is always before the month they are the release for?

I think the idea is just to give a book a headstart for distribution and shelving. These days, with e-books and direct mail order being so prominent, books can be delivered within days or even minutes of their nominal release dates, but the practice was created before all that, when it might take weeks for a book to get shipped, processed, and shelved. So sending it out late in the previous month would give all the stores enough of a headstart to ensure that most of them would have it on sale by the start of the publication month. Better to be early than late.

Now, in the case of magazines and comics, the cover date is a "display until" date, an instruction to store clerks for how long to keep it on the shelves -- which is why comics and monthly magazines tend to have cover dates as much as 3-4 months after their release dates.

I am also a little bit disappointed because I have no interests in Discovery or Kelvin timeline books.
Discovery is set in the Prime Timeline (the same as TOS, TNG, DS9, etc.), unless you meant "Discovery-era books"?

I'm always disappointed when a month goes by without a new Trek book. However, I have faith that those in charge will make it up to us with some crazy, epic event book that will make us forget all about the gaps. Right? ;)

That's what I meant, I only read Lost Era novels ( which are one of the best Star Trek books) And most of the 24th century except for Voyager and Titan, because It is otherwise too expensive and there are too many books.

Agreed. I love her books and I think she is doing great with them. Her writing is amazing and I think she's done a great job with capturing the characters. But I'm wondering if her being a writer for Discovery is interfering with the novels.

Oh there's no question about that. It definitely is. But the question is is it interfering too much. TPTB currently think it's not, but to me it is.

I suppose it'd depend on how Voyager would hypothetically transition to being a multi-author storyline. If it was more like the early DS9 relaunch, where every book had a fairly equal hand in the ongoing story, that'd be okay, but if it was more like current DS9, where Beyer was running the main storyline and the other authors were writing around her, that wouldn't be so great.

But either way, I'm more concerned with good than fast. It's not like we're looking at a Dresden Files or Game of Thrones situation with Voyager novels.

^ I wish all the books were done more in vein of the early DS9 relaunch to be honest. Nothing has felt more interconnected with real character arcs from multiple authors since then. I'm sad to see Voyager slow to a crawl, but the thought of it hypothetically running like the current DS9 model makes me even more sad.

Oh yes. Horbus would be a perfect excuse to do a destiny style epic.

Perhaps like for other Trek series a writer or two could produce a Voyager Ebook shorter novella once in awhile to stave off any future VOY full novel mini (like 2 years) droughts. The stories could be set still in the current VOY litverse/ storyline but might be more humorous in nature, perhaps concentrating on one or two characters as has been done in recent Trek Ebooks. That could be fun and interesting for VOY novel fans and lessen the waiting factor too in between the major works.
