2017, A Trek For The Fans?

Wait, if you think the movies were made to appeal to the "lowest common denominator" yet you found them incomprehensible, what does that make you?

Someone that made something up to make the new movies sound bad. But, it kinda blew up in their face.

It makes me a better person than an unthinking JJ-bot who cherrypicks out of context quotes and on the shoulders of that strawman pretends he's outwitted someone.

I discerned a plot; the plot is just garbage. A plot that has Kirk going from cadet to Captain in a week and has included a badly combined mish-mash of some of the 80s films can only be garbage. Lazy garbage at that.

Oh, I think this is a more representative metaphor of my outnumbered battle against the swarms of meme spoutin' JJ-bots and their 'Cadet to Captain in a week/nuthin-to-see-here' outlook.

Why do you need to battle?

As for my part, all I did was make a humorous response to Bill's statement. Nothing personal toward anyone.

But, since you wanna get personal.
I have loved Star Trek since I was 4 years old.... and that's been 42 years now. That includes the JJ Abrams Treks. It's because of people like you that fandom sucks donkey yarbles, and I no longer want a part of it.

I'll chat Trek up with the best of 'em, but don't ever tell me that I am a lesser person for liking every aspect of Star Trek, no matter who spun it up. You will not meet a nice person.

I'll tell you what's on my heart and I'll the truth too. I don't cheerlead. I'll praise when deserved, criticise when merited and I don't pull punches. If that's too much for you to take then I feel sorry for you but that's your prerogative, I can only take care of myself. And as for me, I like being tested, exchanging views and I enjoy good banter and I have no plans in changing this philosophy any time soon.:techman:

Kurtzman needs to be aware that people want to see his vision of Star Trek about as much as they wanted to see David Lynch's vision of Dune.

Let Star Trek be Star Trek.

If it's true the final product (and the directors cut) was the result of a lot of executive meddling, then I'm curious what his vision of Dune was like. I'm especially curious about what would have resulted from Jodorowsky's version.

I know that's not really what you meant. It's just as a casual fan of Dune, I'm happy enough with having both the Lynch movie and the two miniseries.

As opposed to, say, Ridley Scott's version of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" aka BLADE RUNNER?

Let Dick be Dick. :)

Seriously, there's no rule that says you can't reinterpret old material. Rod Serling's script for PLANET OF THE APES bears little resemblance to the original novel. Doesn't hurt it one bit--and arguably improves on the source material.

Ditto for Cronenberg's THE FLY, which is radically different from both the earlier Vincent Price movie and the original short story by George Langelaan.

or THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (based on a story by Harry Bates), or LOGAN'S RUN, or IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, or pretty much every FRANKENSTEIN movie ever made.

Let Mary Shelley be Mary Shelley! :)

All you folks who think that Lynch improved on Herbert go stand...........in that phone booth over there.

Seriously, all I'm saying is that when you pick up a property as iconic as ST, you need to approach it with a certain respect.

As for "The Day the Earth Stood Still", given the Keanu Reeves remake that wasn't exactly helping your cause to mention that particular property.
