2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Detroit pitcher who hit the HR against the Cubs last week went right on the DL with an oblique strain. It's definitely something you could pull over-swinging.

A shame, Soler was heating up lately.

I wonder if Motte has been having issues for a while. He hasn't been pitching too well for a few weeks.

Hopefully Russell will not miss much time and LaStella can do well enough to at least spell Coghlan.

ETA: At the moment, Coghlan goes to RF with Castro & LaStella splitting 2B depending on match-ups if Russell can play.

I had honestly forgotten that Tommy La Stella: Chicago Cub was A Thing until his name popped up in my Twitter feed this morning.

Every three or four days, it seems, Chris Capuano keeps getting DFA'd and then almost immediately re-signed. Kind of funny when you think about it.

Third time in four weeks. Well, if you need to clear space on the roster, it's not like anyone's going to be champing at the bit for an old guy with an ERA+ of 60 and I'm sure Capuano knows it hence his always accepting the outright reassignment, so, hey, whatever works.

I get news reports for both the Yanks & Mets to my Apple Watch and I've seen at least 5 push notifications of Chris Capuano being designated for assignment. Besides those, the best thing being sent to my Apple Watch is the starting line ups for the Mets and Yanks. Now I don't have to guess or wonder about who is starting for both. In fact I just got both a few minutes ago. David Wright starting his first game off the DL.

Bryant walkoff. Just like they drew it up.

Today is August 24.

The Brewers and Reds have mathematical playoff elimination numbers of 13 and 14, respectively.

Mets really poured on the HRs in Philly tonight. (Including David Wright.) Club record! :techman:

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

And how convenient that Cashman happens to wait long enough to open his big fat yapper so that Jeter's not around to defend himself...

Jeter retired, he's not dead.

Edit: And read the actual piece in the magazine. It's not like Cashman just held a press conference and announced, "By the way, five years ago I really wanted Tulo."

Following up on this: Read the article.

The Cubs sign Quintin Berry and re-sign Emilio Bonifacio.

Story

They'll likely be September call-ups for speed situations and late inning defense.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Emilio Bonifacio managed to put up an OPS+ of 12 in 47 games with the White Sox this season.

Wow.

Like I said, a good pinch runner or defensive replacement. With expanded rosters, why the hell not.

I like how the Cubs TV guys are calling Schwarber "Hoss". He definitely looks like a "Hoss".

Nice friendly disagreement between JD and Len last night when they were discussing the Carlos Gomez 'incident'. Len thought Yankees were possibly overreacting - JD coming at it from a player's perspective (on the opposing team) saying that Gomez's team was already pantsing the Yankees and he should relax...

If you think either position was harsh above it's because of my poor recollection - both made good points.

Great broadcast.

I don't want to listen to a couple of tools that just agree with each other and wave the team flag. I like it when they express their own honest opinions.

I thought the Cubs over-reacted years ago to Steve Stone's comments when he was on for the Cubs. At the time, they sucked....and he said as much.

I like Len & JD enough that I'm watching more games on TV than I have for years. Of course that's due in no small part to the fact that they're kicking bottom.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Yeah, Kasper and Deshaies have finally clicked this year and gotten a good rhythm with each other. Kasper was pretty clearly missing Brenly in 2013 and they started to gel last season, but this year they've just been great.

Of course, it does help, as Ar-Pharazon said, that the team is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I hate the fact that either Pittsburgh or Chicago will be going to the divisional round if this holds. Of course I was looking at the standings and if there is a way for one of those two teams to leap over St. Louis and then St. Louis loses in the Wild Card, that would be more beneficial. I went to the Giants game last night and man the Cubs are good. Giants didn't have an answer until it was too late. The same can be said about the Pirates.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Well, the Cardinals have six games a piece with both the Cubs and Pirates next month, including a pair of series near the end of September, which will be the best opportunity for either team to do some damage to the Cardinals.

They own the Cubs, though.
