Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The sounds of a disgruntled SAUX fan with nothing better to do than attempt to dig at Yankees fans... how are all those #3 pitchers working for ya? ... how about those thunder bats they bought in the off-season?

:guffaw:
One Yankees fan in particular, I guess, who couldn't have been any more petulant over how AROID (or AFRAUD, forget which you used most often) was only slightly worse than the Antichrist, should quit and go away, or at least be pilloried in front of hallowed Yankee Stadium.

*well, not hallowed Yankee Stadium, as that's a parking lot now, but the knock-off next door at least.

None of that familiar? Think the 'love' may have been missing from the love/hate thing you're now claiming. Think what you MEAN is bandwagon fan, in that since he's helpful, you're on board. If he was batting at Drew levels, you'd still be making the childish jabs and saying he should be apologizing on the PA system before each at bat.

If one more announcer says the words "MVP" when talking about A-Rod I'm going to throw something at the TV.... eeesh... he's a DH for gods sake...

No problem with a DH winning MVP, just don't think ARod has been good enough to earn it. Ortiz came close a couple times, and should have won it the year ARod got it instead, if I remember the years correctly.

Freely admit that the Red Sox didn't work out the way I (or anyone, really) thought this year. In extremely puzzling results, pretty much everyone played worse than expected/career norms. Unusual for basically NOTHING to pan out, that usually bounces back over a long sample. They're pulling the plug mid-season, so it's going to end up looking artificially worse than it would have if they fought to the end, but what a clusterfuck of a year. Miley was the only pitcher that bounced back to usefulness. Buchholz was bad, then really good, then hurt (as is his way), Porcello and Kelly have been trainwrecks and way worse than expected. Gotta hope Porcello bounces back and Kelly likes the bullpen I guess. Eddie Rodriguez has at least been a bright spot.

Bats have been generally fine. Don't love Hanley or Panda in the field, but about what I would have expected at the plate, minus Hanley hurting his shoulder for a month or so. Napoli apparently died at some point, Vic never recovered from 2013. That said, Xander and Betts have both looked pretty good, Swihart got a good look at catcher, and still feel just fine about the offense. A little streaky which hasn't helped this year, but they've been fine. Lost yesterday, but still put up what? 8 runs?

Toronto has been crushing it (but no pitching), but feel that Boston's offense is pretty much hanging in there and putting up plenty of runs. Their pitching is just putting them in an immediate hole most nights, so the offense doesn't matter.

Still feel just fine with the Sox, they've got plenty of help or chips in the farm system, and more money coming off the books to help next year. They sign a real pitcher to put at the top of the rotation, and this thing probably looks a little different. They tried the bunch of #2s and #3s plan this year, but they mostly pitched like number two, so it didn't pan out. Not that resigning Lester would have made any difference, he hasn't been good either, and in the NL to boot. *shrug* That's why they play the games I guess.

While we're picking apart pre-season guesses, did CC lock up Cy Young yet? Didi hasn't been special, but Drew doesn't look like he forced him out of the spot...

I just realized that the Jays have managed to trade for both Donaldson and Tulowitzki and have given up a single top 100 prospect in baseball to do so.

AA is amazing.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Yeah, not too shabby there.

Toronto is just weird, one of those teams that always seems like it should be right in it, and often isn't. Dunno...

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Fucking Jenrry Mejia suspended for 162 games, now I know why they traded for Tyler Clipart. At the time, it was a bit of a head scratcher. Our Pen was set up pretty good, so NOW I think this was a good trade.

So the Nats are getting Papelbon (....held limited no-trade rights and had said multiple times that he would not go to a team that would not allow him to maintain his ninth-inning job).

The Nats current closer is 27/29 in save opportunities with a 1.73 ERA. Palelbon is slightly better (17/17, 1.59 ERA), but what a way to get pushed out of the closer role.

Holy shit, the Hall of Fame did a Good Thing: Writers who have not actively covered the game in the past ten years no longer have voting eligibility. This eliminates chucklefucks like those three dudes from golferswest.com, who covered baseball for a few years like a zillion years ago but have been writing about golf since the '70s -- this will also eliminate a lot of people who refuse to vote for people like Clemens or Bonds. (One writer estimated this will eliminate almost half the voting pool, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.)

Good.

Blue Jays could be setting themselves up for next year, they can buy some pitching this off season.

As for the Rockies, considering they have never developed a decent pitcher in 20+ years of existence, all they get is an over the hill Jose Reyes.

Yankees 21 - Rangers 5.

Were they playing in Colorado?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

yeah, that's a pretty solid beating. Impressive after being down 5runs in the first, usually pretty deflating. Or at least is has been when the Red Sox do it every other game... :(

You can make an argument for Aaron Cook.

Schwarber played left today and he didn't slip on a banana peel or throw the ball into the stands.

Yeah, he had at least one put-out.

Lester had 14 K's. We're seeing more and more of the real Jon Lester lately I think.

Carlos Gomez to Mets; Brewers get Zach Wheeler and Wilmer Flores.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^The Mets organization is a joke and will continue to be until the Wilpon family realizes it has no business working in baseball.

Hamels to Rangers for a whole buncha prospects.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Don't think you can really blame the Mets because someone spouted off on a trade that ended up not happening.

Not defending their incompetent owners of course ;)

Mets called off the Gomez trade. Don't know why...

Makes me glad the Cubs weren't that committed to getting Hamels.

We still need another starter, I hope they call up Edwards for a spot start.
