The best / stupidest part of the whole thing is that when Leone got himself ejected with a stupid, meaningless retaliatory throw, the Diamondbacks didn't even have anyone getting loose in the bullpen.

I'd actually forgotten Kirk Gibson had been fired when I saw that.

Plainly his ghost still lives there.

It lives on in Tony La Hitbypitch, who now runs the show there.

Also: Kazmir to the Astros.

It's 2015 and Scott Kazmir is a contender's deadline move. Baseball.

Rumors starting to fly now.

The Cubs want Price (really, who doesn't?) but no names attached to this rumor.
The Cubs want to trade Castro & Baez for Hamels (could they afford to trade both of these guys? Russell would go to SS, but who plays 2B?)

I don't like any of the names being thrown around for the Mets. It's more and more looking like a "next year" mentality.

Tomma LaStella when he's back from injury. Maybe Gleybar Torres someday.

Arismendy Alcantara is also a possibility.

I didn't know we even still had LaStella. I mean, we put Russell there because nobody was producing out of the 2B spot.

Russell isn't producing to much either, but he's pretty damn good defensively despite not being a 2B.

If they actually did trade Castro and Baez, they'd need someone pretty much right now. Maybe Herrera could improve enough, or give Alcantara another shot there.

The Mets basically need to bring up Conforto and get at least one more bat, preferably two. Just call up Colorado and ask them what they want for Tulowitzki and the Mets could make a deal, but given their lack of activity I have a feeling there's going to be a "the market was really focused on starting pitching, which is already our strength" excuse shaping up for next week, because that's the kind of we-tried stuff that Alderson says every year -- see this past offseason, when his top acquisition was fucking Cuddyer. Today they're running Flores, Mayberry and Campbell 3/4/5 against literally the best pitcher on the planet, for heaven's sake.

Aramis Ramirez -- coincidentally, another guy who could have helped the Mets -- is once again a Pirate, in exchange for a nothing pitching prospect.

Stupid gophers, always diggin' holes.

No, that carpet is shit.

ETA:Of course Kershaw is throwing a perfect game through 6 innings against the Mets.

ETA: Well at least we broke up the perfect game, nice single Grandy.

Salary dump.

I wouldn't have been too sad had the Cubs taken a look.

Well the Mets did it, put Cuddyer on the DL and called up Conforto. First, they should have put Cuddyer on the DL days ago and not let him pinch hit the other night. Secondly, LoL Mets.

The Cubs and Phillies have been discussing a trade involving Hamels, reports CSN Chicago's David Kaplan. Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro and former first-round pick Javier Baez are reportedly available for trade in the right deal, but the Phillies were not interested....
What's not to be interested in?

Castro has a great hobby in bird-watching. Just because he partakes of that hobby during games shouldn't be held against him.

The other guy just has a broken finger and a swing that causes dust storms.

In other news:
- One AL exec's description of the #Reds price tag on Aroldis Chapman: "Exorbitant." Other clubs not sure the owner wants to move him
- The White Sox are asking for four players in return for pitcher Jeff Samardzija, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports
I would say that Chapman is probably the Reds' biggest piece of trade-bait, but the story doesn't define "exorbitant".

Samardzija isn't the pitcher he was when the Cubs got a haul for him, so....four players?

In other news...Rays minor league team finds ginormous ALLIGATOR in visitors' dugout. Linky

If Theo and Hoyer thought they could snooker Gillick and MacPhail on that, good gravy (but it feels more like a planted "we tried" story).

Mets gonna acquire Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson from the Braves. Mets are sending two minor league right handers, Rob Whalen and John Gant.

I think this speaks volumes about the Mets.
