But you love him and forgive him? Or are all your wins tainted now?

Don't love him, don't forgive him. Don't root for him, and don't root against him. Just kind of blah when he gets up.

No more tainted than every other team in the league.

Break...

Nice to see Tex get the all-star nod. Well deserved. He gets to start because Miggy is hurt.

Betances was a no-brainer.

I'll be voting for Gardner today.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Mets broadcasters were talking about the All-Star Game and whether or not every team should be represented. IMHO, I think this would be a good idea - the ASG is obviously not about sending the "best" players, since it allows fans to vote for them in the first place. IMHO, all teams should be required to be represented. What say you?

I agree - and because of that proviso it's absolutely absurd to have it count for home field advantage in the WS.

Thanks for nothing, Bud.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I have no problem with the ASG determining home field advantage. It might as well have some repercussions...out of all the sports that have all star games, this is the only one that matters. I'm cool with that!

I thought all teams are represented. They don't all start, though.

I say the fans should have nothing to do with All-Star selection.

Let the players vote, and each player can't vote for a member of his own team.

Also, this stupid game shouldn't determine home field advantage in the World Series. This is the single most stupid decision Bud made as commissioner.

Unless you are the team with the best record that reaps no benefit for their success.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The All-Star Game determining home-field advantage in the World Series is one of the worst decisions Bud Selig made in his entire career as commissioner.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ Explain.

It is a meaningless exhibition game, intended to be fun. Adding the home field advantage bit is completely moronic, because it rewards a team a significant World Series advantage that it potentially did not earn, but rather was gifted because of a meaningless exhibition game. Who gives a shit who wins? And why should that meaningless exhibition game affect a huge factor of the World Series? To say nothing of the possibility of a manager abusing some other team's player in order to win because he thinks he has a legitimate World Series shot and goes the extra mile to win.

Or let me put it this way: Why did the Royals deserve home-field advantage when last year, the All-Star Game began by Adam Wainright grooving batting-practice fastballs to Derek Jeter and it opened up a 3-0 lead?

The only reason Selig did it is because he was embarrassed about a tie game that happened during what should have been the ~grand showcase~ of his precious team's park. I like Selig for the most part and you can make a strong argument that he's the best commissioner in the game's history (not difficult, given some of the clowns to hold the position throughout history) but that change is just completely stupid.

Also, your Home Run Derby brackets:

Pujols vs Bryant
Pederson vs Machado
Donaldson vs Rizzo
Frazier vs Fielder

So if the ASG shouldn't determine home field advantage, what should?

Playoff record, presumably, or you can make it the regular season record. Coin flip in the event of a tie. But not the results of what is effectively a fantasy baseball game with two completely random rosters playing each other. A National League team that wins 100 games and goes to the World Series shouldn't get boned and have to play four games in Fenway because some jobber on Tampa Bay hit a bloop single in the 9th to win the ASG.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The only thing I'll point out is they previously used a coin flip to determine home field. But I do agree that it makes no sense elevating the All Star Game into something meaningful. By doing that, it actually diminishes its value - which is in it being an exhibition game. If you want it to be meaningful, you'd have to take away fan voting and take away the rule requiring at least one player from each team. Then you should probably play it like a real game too rather than switching players out every couple of innings just so the fans can see everyone. In other words, the things that make the game "fun" (seeing the best players interact with each other) should go away if you want it to matter.

I think "best record" is the logical way to do it - just like every other damn sport. But I could see interleague record or even the record of your league vs. the other league. All are more reasonable ways to handle it.

Looks like my Angels have finally joined the Land of the Living.

Should be a fun second half.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Actually, prior to 2003, it simply alternated every year between the leagues.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Fine with either. Alternate is fine, like the idea of best record better. Exhibition game is a dumb way to do it, especially if they aren't going to play to win. Don't switch starters after two innings if you have the best guy in your league going; let him pitch.

Then again, you screw over his team by burning a start and risking injury, so understandable why no one wants to play hard there.

Just let best record determine it. Or could do neutral site like NFL, but kinda sucks for fans that way.

Should at least play by the same rules, and allow DH, though. That's the big whack in whether AL or NL has home field advantage; one less game the AL can use the DH that their roster is constructed around. Would be kind of nice if they just got their shit together and agreed on common rules and stopped the difference. Not like AFC in football can use an extra lineman or something...

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The DH will be in the NL within 5 years.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I hope not. I suspect it'll be there eventually, but five years seems way too soon.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I use to be a having a pitcher bat purist, but I have evolved. I want the DH in the national league. I'm tired of watching pitchers bat, they suck. Even the "better" hitting pitcher still suck. Let a hitter hit, thats all.
