2014 MLB Season: How Many Pitchers Will Die For Our Sins?

A few times during the game (the triple play, and when Solarte hit the home run) I start singing "Solaaaaarte..." to the tune of Volare.

Then I find out that, during the radio broadcast, John Sterling did the same thing.

I imitated John Sterling without realizing it. Yuck. :barf:

I didn't get to watch any of the game but the 9th inning yesterday. But it was nice to see the defense be able to help CC out. For awhile it seemed like every mistake he made he ended up paying for.

Just love seeing Yangsy play well. Nice story there.

So Dickey has a couple good innings and then falls apart. He can't pitch in Rogers Centre, he can't pitch in the cold. He's constantly saying he's close to having it feel right, but it never seems to get there.

The Jays got fleeced with him, giving up two of our best prospects for a pitcher who had one good season. Trade him now before the rest of the league realizes it too.

Did you scream at the TV when the Jays gave up eight walks in one inning, with three passed balls, and 6 runs on only one hit? I was really perplexed by that game last night. Can't remember much like it.

RELEASE THE HARANGUTAN!!!

I know you've complained about the Dickey trade since the day it happened, but that really, really isn't fair. Dickey had two seasons in which he could have been easily called one of the best pitchers in baseball, and a third that was really, really good. I honestly believe that moving to the AL is what wrecked him -- some pitchers can't make the adjustment for whatever reason, be it a different catcher, not batting anymore, etc.

Also, D'Arnaud's prospect value plummeted when he shredded his knee and foot, which will necessitate a move from C to 1B sooner rather than later. The Blue Jays dodged a bullet by dumping him.

I can agree that the move to the AL, with more power hitters, wrecked him. And in the long run, we carry a fairly useless back up catcher in Josh Thole, just because he can catch Dickey. He wasn't worth it.

D'Arnaud may be heading down, but Noah Syndergaard is going to be an ace for years to come.

but Noah Syndergaard is going to be an ace for years to come.

I think it's way too early to say that. Arodys Vizcaino was seen as a future ace in the Braves system alongside Teheran, which is why the Cubs tried so hard to get him (first by offering Dempster, then Reed Johnson and ... Maholm, I think?) for a while ... and then his elbow exploded twice, and he's now only projecting to be a reliever at best. Syndergaard is already having stories planted in the media about his "attitude," which is par for the course with the Mets, and at 21, it's pretty hard to really gauge where he's going to go -- K numbers are great, but his body type is pretty much identical to Jon Garland, and we all know where that guy's career went. Syndergaard throws really hard and has an incredible curveball, but he could go down for Tommy John tomorrow or next week and I wouldn't be surprised.

That's the whole point of modern talent evaluation: You can never assume "this guy is a can't-miss prospect." It's a crapshoot. Sometimes you strike gold with a Piazza (who wasn't drafted until 61 or 62, if memory serves) or an Oswalt, and you completely bust with a Scott Kazmir (lolmets) or a Royce Ring.

Harper yanked for not running out a grounder and then Williams put him on blast in the post game. I'm sure that situation will end great for Williams, especially if the Nats keep playing with their collective heads up their asses on defense.

If there's one thing you can say about Bryce Harper's career of running face-first into things at full speed, it's that he has a serious lack of hustle.

Also, watch the at-bat that got Harper benched. The ball one-hops to the pitcher and he's out by like thirty feet. If only he had hustled he'd have been out by twenty feet instead. Yeesh.

Me thinks that the great Matt Williams manager experiment of 2014 will die a quick death.

What kind of retard...? After being called out for being blatant about cheating last time, decided to go back and be MORE obvious about it this time? enjoy the suspension, can't see them letting him off easy here. Gonna be a blow to the Yankees, as he'd come out of the gate pretty hot...

It was funny the first time around.

But now - all intellegence has left the building...

Jesus...

What part about "hide it like everyone else does" doesn't this idiot understand?

What do you think, 5 or 10 day suspension?
