2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Yeah, that was funny. I wonder if he was also credited with the assist. ;) It was great that Klose scored his 15th World Cup goal and now shares the lead on the eternal scorers list with Ronaldo.

Before the tournament I never doubted that Germany would make it into the knock-out round, unlike some, but now I'm slightly worried. We'll see how strong the US team is tomorrow but in any case the game against them on Thursday will be close. Germany's traditional weaknesses were rather evident today and obviously, Klinsmann knows them and Löw's outlook on things very well.

So, Bosnia is out. They were rather disappointing in this World Cup, all in all.

The English media are providing the standard hysterical (over)reactions as their side's departure from the event is confirmed. What an ugly group of people they can be.
It's the English media - it's what they do...
Well...yes. The sheer stupidity and ugliness of it - not to mention the hypocrisy, the repetitiveness and the hyperbole - makes for entertaining (and occasionally mind-boggling) reading, though. Which was my (perhaps rather vaguely expressed) point.

Götze's comedy goal seemed to spark what had been a dull match. Ghana were much better than their insipid effort against the US and a draw was probably the right result. One wonders how the Nigeria-Bosnia Herzegovina game might have gone had Dzeko's perfectly legitimate "goal" been allowed, but on the whole that was probably the right result, too. As for the other game...well, Messi's goal was pretty. Otherwise...yeah.

^The Sun, Mirror, Mail and maybe the Express (although they're just obsessed with the royals) are the main culprits. Everything in there is so dumbed down. We got a 'complimentary' edition of The Sun free in the post when the world cup started... only it wasn't about the world cup, it was about the England team, England and the St. Georges flag generally. We needed paper to start the fire for roasting marshmallows so...

Although I obviously wanted England to do well I could help finding it a little hilarious when Costa Rica beat Italy. I want Costa Rica to win the whole thing now, long shot I know, but wouldn't it be great? ;)

I don't know how Russia isn't winning this game yet. Belgium's doing absolutely nothing, they just look tired and always a step behind.

And Hazard woke up just after my comment.

It saved my bet so I'm happy. If Algeria wins, I'm 5€ richer. I know, I live a dangerous life.

I have to go into work for a few hours today, so I'm going to miss the US/Portugal match. Super bummed. :(

But since Germany only drew with Ghana yesterday, the US needs to pull out a win if they want to guarantee getting out of the group. Any other scenario requires too many other pieces to fall into place. It's going to be really tough, and I'm still not expecting anything more than a draw, at best, but if the US is going to beat Portugal this will be one of their best chances to do so. The Portuguese will be missing Coentrao, Pepe and Almeida, and we still don't know if Ronaldo is really at 100% or not.

Hoping to see a good result when I get home later this evening. :D

If it's a draw the USA and Germany could have a nice friendly, uncontested final game and both move to the knock-out stages... ;)

Austria's greatest accomplishment in international football: ensuring that the last two games of the group stage are always at the same time.

.... yay us?

The American commentators for this game just mentioned that game (because Algeria is on right now and playing very well).

They just said that if you have insomnia, that's a good game to watch.

Austria's greatest accomplishment in international football:

Qualifying Germany to the next stage of the world cup in 1982 (if I understand correctly). Austria is the reason why Platini is sad :(

My mother might have miscarried because of that World Cup. Seriously.

She was massively pregnant during that WC (my brother ended up being born three days after the final), and France has always been her team. So when Toni Schumacher tried to murder Patrick Battiston in the semifinal, she got into so much of fit, my father almost called the ambulance. :rommie:

Made Italy's eventual victory even more sweet, I'm told.

The medical service is kind of funny - "Hey, there's a player holding his hands before his face, let's put a blanket on him. He probably feels cold in this heat, anyway."

Loving this game...2-1 States.

USA, USA!!! closest thing we got to England left in the cup :p
