2011 sequel announced

Could they possibly be planning a sequel before the success of this new movie has yet to be determined?

Yes.

A month ago, at the free screenin' here in Austin with Leonard Nimoy and the writers, they announced after the movie that they (the writers) are already workin' on the sequel for their Trek reboot.

I guess it only makes sense. You dont put this much effort into a new summer blockbuster flick and not plan on making another one down the road

Not gonna happen. Do you really think Paramount would pressure a director to release a sequel within 24 months? :wtf:

;)

why 2011? Surely they could get it done by 2010 :)

The last two franchises to pump out a sequel every single year are... Saw and Police Academy. And Friday the 13th had a period where some of their movies were one year after another. That should tell you something about quick movie turnaround.

Im not saying they will, but this movie was made last year, i should off been released at Christmas, so they have had a lot of time already for the storyline.

And they already have most of the models and sets and cast.

So if this works 12 months seems a decent time frame for a sequel.

The beauty is in this new alternate reality, James T. Kirk may still be alive in his 70's and not have "disappeared" on the 1701-B into the Nexxus.

oh yes, good thinking! The bring back Kirk campaign should take note: it could be the road has been opened!

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan 2
Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock's Planet
Star Trek 3, Part Deux: The Search for Porthos
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home to Roman Numerals

I'd call them all "Star Trek". Without adding anything. That way, only the 'real fans' know which is which. :shifty:
