2011 NFL Season - A New Game

It looked flawless to me. Perfectly designed to not hit with the helmet. If a player thinks they would get a flag for that, they don't really know how to tackle properly.

I mean this was a hit on Brady. If there's anyone who gets a call on a close play, it's him.

For what it's worth, I thought the Dumervil hit was clean and professional. My friend and I looked at each other immediately after that play, and said that's how you hit someone.

On the other hand, Harrison has definitely had some questionable hits. Anyone who disagrees is an obvious homer. If Harrison had made the hit on Brady exactly the same way Dumervil had, it's likely he would have gotten praise for finally getting it right, and all it took was hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines/suspensions.

Has Harrison had some borderline plays? Yes. But the Dumervil sack is the way it should be done. No question about it.

Leading with the helmet is still leading with it. I watched it expecting a flag.

The difference is what part of the helmet you lead with. If you duck your head and hit them with the crown of the helmet, that's gonna draw the flag. But when go into the them face first, it's considered a clean hit.

How many helmet-to-helmets were inflicted on Kellen Clemens during the Cincy- St. Louis game that was obvious in replays but were not seen or flagged????

There were two very obvious helmet-to-helmet hits on Clemens that were not called.

They were so blatant I could not figure out what the refs were looking at.

If they're going to enforce it, they have to enforce it across the board.

Get that logic out of here! It makes far more sense to look at this as more evidence that there's a conspiracy to bone the Steelers and their players.

Didn't the Packers lose two starting offensive linemen to injury? That could affect an outcome or two. Rodger is accustomed to that top flight protection and time to throw. That could be altered.

The Packers also might be packing it in now that they can't be perfect.

It's gonna take a miracle for the Bears to get in the playoffs now, so I don't care.

I know they have the division wrapped up but homefield is not set yet.

In the AFC the Pats can be #1 if they win out, but I'd love if the competition lost this week so they could wrap it up though. But Houston, Pitt, and Baltimore are playing cupcakes so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Right now I am laughing at the possibility of every team in the AFC west going 8 and 8

And in that scenario, as I understand it, the Chiefs hold all the tie-breakers and would win the division (but I may be misinformed so don't take that as gospel.) I don't see Denver losing to Buffalo or San Diego losing to Detroit this weekend, so I don't think it will happen, but I'm thinking what a match up it would be in week 17, KC @ Denver, Orton vs Tebow, for the division title. Winner advances, loser stays home. It's essentially an extra playoff game.

Don't underestimate the Broncos ability to lose games they should win.

You are correct. Broncos currently lead the division with 8-6 record. The scenarios for the division play out:

Broncos clinch with win vs Bills AND any Raiders loss.
Raiders clinch with two wins (Chiefs and Chargers) AND Broncos loss to Chiefs.
Chargers clinch with two wins AND two Broncos losses.
Chiefs clinch with two wins AND Broncos loss to Bills AND any Chargers loss.

Ironically, if the Chiefs beat Oakland this week, they actually help the Broncos win the division.

^Also, if the Broncos beat the Chiefs, they're in regardless of whatever else happens this weekend and next.

I must admit that I'm extremely nervous about the next two weeks. It's not even so much about the opponents (though I'm sure the Bills and the Chiefs would both love to play spoiler). It's recent history that scares me. 3 out of the last 4 years, Denver was 100% in control of its own destiny. If they go out and do their thing, they're in. Denver's blown it every single year, including the Great Meltdown of 2008, where they just had to win 1 of their final 3 games against a fairly weak schedule to get in, and they couldn't even manage that.

I'm incredibly excited that they're back in the running this early in the rebuild, and I'm excited that Denver controls its own destiny. But it scares me that we'll have yet another killer meltdown.

I know the feeling. Even though watching the Chiefs get blown out week after week was kind of tough to take at first, you kind of get numb to it after awhile. And now that they have a chance (albeit slim) to make the playoffs, the games become meaningful again, and it's hard to just relax and watch the games.

I find myself wondering if the weirdness of Herm's first year at HC is going to repeat itself. It came down to the final day of the season, and a WHOLE bunch of teams had to lose for the Chiefs to get in the playoffs. And they did, every last one of them. And just like that, the Chiefs "backed" into the playoffs that year. Of course they got destroyed the next week by the Colts, but hey, it was the playoffs.

The Raiders will probably kill them Saturday rendering all my "concern" moot.
