2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Ouch. Merry Christmas, Vikings -- Adrian Peterson's knee exploded yesterday and he tore both his ACL and MCL.

That's terrible. I'm no Vikings fan, but he's a serious dude.

Speaking of serious dudes....

Allow me to acknowledge the one bright spot in an otherwise dismal football year...

Let's have some respect for Steven Jackson:

Yesterday, amidst another blowout loss by the Rams, Steven Jackson become only the 7th player in NFL history to rush for over 1000 yards seven years in a row. And he's done it on a team that's absolutely terrible. Two years ago he rushed for 1400 yards on a team that was 1-15.

The Battering Ram always plays hard, he always gives 100%. He's never complained or demanded a trade. And if anyone deserves one, it's him. The Rams have squandered his gifts. On at least a dozen other teams, he would be an MVP candidate year in and year out.

Anyway, a great running back, and a real class act.

Way to go, Steven!

:techman:

Yeah, and when you wreck your knee like that, it's a career-altering injury, especially for a guy like Peterson who relies on his insanely, ridiculously quick cutting ability.

My knee hurt just watching the video.

Not to mention Christian Ponder getting knocked out on the next play.... but still pulling out the win. That's impressive

There's talk Peterson might not even be healed in time for the start of the 2012 season. Guess they should have just shut him down for the season after he sprained his knee a few weeks back- kind of foolish to risk a $100 million player on a meaningless game. And by winning the game they put themselves out of the running for Luck and might not get a shot at drafting Matt Kalil. Pretty steep price to pay just to get to 3-12.

To complement Mr. Steven Jackson, the Rams need to draft Justin Blackmon and then shore up that offensive line. Bradford needs help in the worst way.

Rogers is 5 away from the season TD record. Sounds to me like a MVP season.

Unless the media wises up and gives it to Peyton again! Peyton was clearly this season's MVP!

^I know it's unprecedented for a defensive player to be considered the MVP, but if Manning is to get consideration for being MVP on account of his team's collapse without him, then I would like to propose Brian Dawkins getting consideration as well. He may not get noticed a whole lot when he's in the game, but when he's out, the Broncos can't tackle or cover.

Otherwise, Rodgers sounds like a good option to me. ;)

^All I'm saying is that if we're considering players whose teams collapse without them for MVP, then Dawkins has at least earned his name being on the ballot after the last two weeks. ;)

The Lions clinch a playoff berth!

I'm not completely writing them off to win at least one game. But if they draw the Saints in a 3 vs. 6 match-up, it could be lights out.

LOL at the Falcons and this sportswriter crying over Brees and the Saints running up the score:

Here's some advice: Try having an actual pass defense and don't get your asses kicked by a division opponent clearly looking to make a statement that you'll have to go through them in the playoffs and then have the fake stones to complain about them running up the score.

Congratulations to Drew Brees. It must have been extremely exciting to break the record while throwing a TD pass. I think there's probably a 50% chance we'll see the Saints in the Super Bowl.

Jason Cole on Yahoo sports said the same crap:

I agree with you. Everyone in the entire country knew they were going for it on that drive. It's Monday Night Football. Packed house. National audience. There were 4 minutes left on the clock. They are on the 33 yard line and only need 30 yards. They are winning by more than 16 (i.e, its a 3 score game). There is absolutely ZERO risk and 100% reward for going for it.

I saw the Falcon/ media complaints earlier and I had to just roll my eyes. If you don't want to score run up on you, man up and stop them! It kind of falls into the same category for me as people in shooter games complaining about other players camping- you know where they are, so quit complaining and make them move.

Personally if I were a player, I would be more offended if the opposition quit trying to score or play aggressive defense because that would tell me that the other team doesn't look at us as a threat that needs to be worried about.
