2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Whoever the hell coaches the Colts is looking at a potential pink slip..... though an epic slide like what they've had this year is pretty hard to defend.

I know it goes against the professionalism code in football, but I honestly think the Colts are purposely tanking this season in order to get Andrew Luck. There is no way that Manning alone can have that kind of effect on the team.

Caldwell has been a spectacular failure. As a Colts fan, I was going "WTF?!?" the day he was hired, and that was before he coached a single game. The fact that he "took" that team to a Super Bowl is probably all he's riding on right now, and its debatable what exactly he did en route to that Super Bowl. He's a failure.

Tony Dungy has to be the only coach to ever have the teams he coached go to the Super Bowl the year after he leaves (Tampa and Indianapolis). In my opinion, that says more about his coaching than it does about the guy who followed him.

I must admit that I've never entirely understood how quickly coaches can end up on the hot seat. The Eagles have been in contention for as long as I can remember, but after one rough season there's talk that he's out.

Well, he also had some problems about two years ago and no one gave him trouble then. Andy Reid has some serious flaws as a coach that he's always been able to paper over through talent of player, talent of his defensive coordinator, and some good execution that pulls things through. He is a terrible play caller that runs a one-dimensional offense. He is terrible at clock management. And he isn't great at a situational offense. Reid has always been solid at what he does, but it's clear his flaws always get in the way in key situations.

I don't think the Fire Andy Reid arguments will pan out, short of having someone better. I think they need a different approach to offense, someone who will focus on defense, and is willing to light a fire under the players but, absent that person magically appearing, Reid is still the best coach available.

The Saints just finished marching all over the Giants.

It was a good night to have Drew Brees on your fantasy team. :D

Barry Switzer did it with the Cowboys the year after Jimmy got canned.

Didn't the Raiders go to the superbowl the year after Gruden left, only to wind up facing his Bucs team?
Yeah, and he was coaching a Bucs team that had been coached the previous year by...Tony Dungy. The fact that it happened twice is pretty cool, though I wouldn't be surprised if Dungy was a little annoyed when the Bucs won.

No. Jimmy Johnson led the Cowboys to wins in Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII. He then left the team due to continuing tension with Jerry Jones so Switzer came in. The Cowboys lost the NFC Championship game the next season denying the Cowboys 3 straight Superbowl victories. The following year Switzer led them to victory in Superbowl XXX. IMO, any NFL coach, could have led the Cowboys to 3 straight Super Bowls. JJ just wants a coach who does what he says.

Jason Garrett may lead the Cowboys to another Super Bowl within the next 3 years, but after that, I'm sure he'll be fed up with JJ's micro managing and quit. That's IF JJ lets him stay that long.

Make it so!

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz reportedly is interested in the head-coaching opening at Arizona State, where he once served as an assistant.

Pretty please with sugar on top?

Yes.

Coach Martz?

Hey?

Hey, coach?

GET THE FUCK OUT.

In other news Jack Del Rio has been fired by the Jaguars, who have been sold, pending league approval, to Shahid Khan, an Illinois businessman.

And the Colts today fired defensive coordinator Larry Coyer, and announced that Painter has been benched in favor of Dan Orlovsky.

You know, that Dan Orlovsky.

Wait, I thought the Colts had already tried Orlovsky a few weeks ago only to go back to Painter? I don't follow them closely beyond wanting to bet $20 on them for giggles this weekend in Vegas despite them being 21 point underdogs to New England, so I have no clue what actually happened that caused them to put in Orlovsky.

To clarify: I mean betting on New England to actually win by 21 or more points, not on Indy.

Wait, I thought the Colts had already tried Orlovsky a few weeks ago only to go back to Painter?

Kerry Collins started the first three games of the season. Orlovsky's only seen mop-up duty during garbage time at the end of games.

so I have no clue what actually happened that caused them to put in Orlovsky.

Clearly the Colts got a hold of a recording of Belichick's talk to the team before practice this morning.

"Gentlemen, I just put every last one of your paychecks for this Sunday's game on our team on the spread.

It's 22. Get the fuck to it.

By the way, Tom, they've been making fun of your hair. Go teach them the meaning of being absolutely fabulous."

And then the Colts panicked, and went to their only other option under center.

I want the Jags in LA. Next season. I don't care that they suck; I just want football games that I can attend.

Make it so.

I can not believe that Dan RunoutofBoundsSki is going to start for Indy. Oh well, that's at least one more game this year the Texans will win.

^I'm moving to Portland. I get to trade the Patriots for the Blazers and Timbers. Or a 3 hour ride to Seattle to see a shitty team.

I so need Sunday Ticket.

Holy crap Smoothie, from one end of the country to the other. It's beautiful country out there. Hope you like it.

I'm outdoorsy, typically vote left, my expertises are stormwater management and green design, anti huge city, lover of microbrews, looking for a dog friendly place, etc.

It's like it was meant to be. We're relocating because my wife was just hired as a professor at a university there. Other than finding a place to live and me finding work, we're all set.

Fortunately, civil engineering, while not the sexiest of jobs, is a steady and in demand profession. I've already got my licensure application in with the state board there, and will start my job hunt after the 1st of the year. I expect I'll find something readily, but a job hunt plus distance is a daunting task. I'm glad I have so many frequent flyer miles...

Awesome. Congrats on the move. I don't know how often the Pats making to Seatle though. You'll definitely want to invest in Direct TV.
