2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Yay Denver!!! The defense played like badasses once again and there will be songs and tales written about Von Doom and the terror they bring down upon opposing QBs. Tebow passed pretty good today, I'm impressed. McGahee continues to be the man and I'm excited about what Decker can do. We need to get rid of bad penalties.... it wouldn't be so bad, except they seemed to always come at critical times. Stopped the Chargers- never mind, automatic first down! 11 yard rush- nope, backwards 10 yards instead. Field goal range- haha, I kid: we're going to hold our way right out of that!

I will say I am very glad that we didn't need the TD that we had the no-call pass interference on. Would have been so very pissed if that would have mattered in the end.

Someday, Denver will learn to play from ahead. Until that day, I am willing to take these late-game chest clutchers. GO BRONCOS!!!

^^ At least the Broncos are making it fun to watch the entire game. Who needs 35-3 blowouts anyway?

For today's game, i hereby nominate Sebastian Janikowski for the Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.
And to think there are still Raider fans who think drafting him and Shane Lechler in the first round a decade ago was a mistake. Both of these guys have helped us win many a game over the years and both are going into the HOF one day. Jano is actually hurting too with a tender hamstring.

Nice ugly win, thanks Jano. For once, the Raiders aren't the team with the wacky game killing penalty. Carson played okay, 21-37, 1 pick, but credit the Bears red zone D and missing Denarius Moore for no T.D. passes.

7-4 and rolling.

Well that drives the final nail in the coffin for the Chiefs season. Makes the Orton signing even more irrelevant now. At least it sets up an interesting Orton vs Tebow battle in week 17.

The Patriots let the Dream Team get a couple of scores just to be nice, then they laid the smackdown on them. :D

I went to the gym just before the game yesterday, and was trying to finish showering in time for kickoff. To my chagrin, it was 1st and goal a minute into it. I thought, oh shit, this is gonna be a long day. The offense just suddenly exploded. I liked it.

Welkers 2nd TD was exactly the same as the Bengals TD that was reversed by Ron Winters in that Bengal/Ravens game...WTF!!!!!!!!:klingon::vulcan::scream:

He's Wes Welker, and your guy isn't. Quite simple.:mallory:

Sums up my biggest problems with Andy Reid

Andy Reid never ceases to amaze Bill Belichick. Nearly 7 years ago, the Patriots coach was absolutely dumbfounded as he stood on the sideline of what was then called Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville during the waning minutes of Super Bowl XXXIX and watched Reid's Eagles, who were trailing by 10 points at the time, stroll down the field on a time-consuming 13-play drive as if they were on a leisurely sunset walk along the beach.

"Have I got the score right?" Belichick asked his assistants up in the booth via his headset. Informed that he indeed did, he said, "Then what the hell are they trying to do?"

Belichick no doubt was asking the same question of Reid's curious decision-making with respect to his star running back, LeSean McCoy, in yesterday's ugly 38-20 loss to the Patriots.

Although I do applaud him for benching Jackson after he refused to catch passes over the middle. The entire Eagles team is a mess and no one is truly exempt from criticism (LeSean McCoy being the closest to an exception).

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Andy Reid is fired after this season. Not because I think it should happen, but because I think many fans will be calling for it and the ownership will decide they want 'fresh blood' or whatever.

I must admit that I've never entirely understood how quickly coaches can end up on the hot seat. The Eagles have been in contention for as long as I can remember, but after one rough season there's talk that he's out. Norv Turner's crew has been up and down, but generally been near the top and there's talk of him being out. Whoever the hell coaches the Colts is looking at a potential pink slip..... though an epic slide like what they've had this year is pretty hard to defend. It seems like it doesn't take much anymore for coaches to be in trouble, or even in the case of new coaches, it seems like there's a danger of them being out if they don't turn a team around right away.

So Leinart plays for less than a half, racks up a 110 QB rating, and then breaks his collarbone. Again. He cannot buy a break.

Stories on the interweb are now throwing around the "F" word for the Texans. Favre.

That can't be right, can it??

They have a legitimate playoff run going, and need to bring someone in quickly.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Andy Reid, Norv Turner and Jim Caldwell all wound up pink slipped after this season.

Reid hasn't been able to take the Eagles to the next level in a decade of coaching (whether being "consistently good" but never great is a desirable quality is a debate in and of itself), Turner's predecessor got fired for a 14-2 season and failing to make a run in the playoffs, and Caldwell's inevitably going to be a scapegoat for what's looking more and more likely to be a 1 or 2 win season if you're wildly optimistic.

Is it fair? Probably not, but personally I'd much rather see teams be proactive and not stagnate like so many Chicago teams have done. Yeah, the green grass, fences, and all that...

EDIT: Fixed Schottenheimer's record and add a few more thoughts.

Caldwell's definitely a dead man walking. The only reason Polian hasn't tossed him yet is because they want to see who will be available -- it's guaranteed that they're drafting Luck, so they're probably praying that Cowher finally bites on an offer. (Or Gruden.)

Reid is still really close with Jeffrey Lurie, so he may still survive, though I expect him to lose his GM role.

Same thing (keeping the job, that is) applies to Norv, since A.J. Smith fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14 - 2 season simply because they didn't get along. Norv and Smith are pretty good friends, and Dean Spanos has yet to tell off Smith. Unless the Chargers lose out, I don't see Norv getting canned.

If Norv does get fired, fucking please please please please please hire him, Chicago. He's the offense version of Wade Phillips -- amazing coordinator who's completely over-matched as a head coach.

Texans GM said said he doesn't want Farve or the circus it will bring to town. Also, Kubiak said T.J. Yates is the starting QB. He was our rookie practice squad QB, now he's the starter.

Kubiak also said they'll be in the market for another experienced QB, but the pickings are pretty slim right now. Like I said, the Texans will still make the playoffs because the Titans won't catch up. How long they last in the playoffs is the question.

Also, Jeff Garcia tried out a week ago for the Texans, but he didn't make it.

Edit: Just read that Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia will be in Houston tomorrow for a try out. Like I said, Garcia was in Houston last week and didn't get picked.
