2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Between the Texans poor play and the officials calling the game for the Colts, I'm pissed. I hate to say it, but right now I'm thinking the Texans are one and done in the playoffs. It was nice while it lasted.

If the Colts aren't careful, they're gonna screw themselves out that number 1 pick.

For those interested in the gritty details, the ESPN.com article above outlines some of the possibilities between the Colts, Vikings and Rams. It's entirely possible the Colts won't get the number one pick if they win 1 of their 2 remaining games. IMO the Rams have far and away the hardest remaining schedule of those three teams.

Suck for Kalil!

:techman:

Wow, the Jets are not having any luck today, a 99 yard run (or pass I guess officially) against them and then immediately a freak fumble return TD.

eta: nevermind, ruling reversed. I'm not sure I agree with the refs though, I don't think he was down.

What in the world is going on with Carolina? Did Raheem Morris insult the Carolina players mothers or something?

We have the sucky New Jersey game on here and I'd just about take any other game over this pile of dung.

I'd take any set of games over Bucs/Panthers and Jacksonville/Tennessee.

The Denver team that played today and last sunday is not the same team that went on the big winning streak. Previously, they've been able to move past mistakes. They played great special teams. Defense was generally solid. They all around played disciplined. Last two weeks, special teams got raped, defense can't tackle worth shit, they're leaving people open, they're getting burned for big plays, and the offense seems to self destruct at times. I think the announcers said it best when they said that when things go wrong for Denver, they really start going wrong. The rapid-fire mistakes are killers.

I have to wonder if them being a young team is part of this. Things start slipping out of hand, and they get into their own heads somehow and continue screwing up. I wonder if the possibility and the pressure of potentially ending up in the playoffs is screwing with them too. No one is playing the way they were. Whatever it is, it's just weird.

One strange part of the playcalling that I'm not getting though is that we've abandoned the run the last couple games in the second half. I do think that part of Denver's success came from the fact that they would run and run and run, even when it's not working, and then by the end they can do whatever they want because the defense is worn out. Last week, I can see an argument for going to the air, but today we started going all air even when we were still well in reach of the game.

They still control their own destiny. Win next week and they're in. Hopefully they can pull it together, get out of their heads, and get back to what made them successful.

I think the last two weeks have shown how much Brian Dawkins really means to the Broncos defense.

Big comeback win for the Patriots today to clinch a first-round playoff bye. It was 17-0 Miami at halftime, and then things finally started clicking for New England. Now hopefully next week the Patriots can lock up home field advantage, too.

God, no kidding! I make fun of the Colts offense for how much it sucks without Manning, and then the Broncos D pulls the same stunt when Dawkins goes out. Bruton stepped in pretty well though.. I couldn't figure out why Carter wasn't playing though. Carter has been the better of the two rookies by far, and yet it was Moore getting all the playing time.

49ers had a huge gritty win today. Going on short rest up to one of the hardest places to play, I think this might be one of their best and "most deserving" wins of the season. Thank you Larry Grant, who came in for the Best Linebacker in the league a few weeks ago and has shown he can play with the best of them. Having him being showered with Skittles was funny.

Now the 49ers control their own Destiny, playing against a lowly St. Louis team next week. Hopefully Atlanta wins and they don't even need to worry about it (And maybe even rest their starters for 2 weeks instead of one) but I love the position the team is in going into next week and that possible Second seed in the NFC.

Go Falcons.

Their timing was wayyyyy off in the first half. Their mish mash of an O line didn't help. The timing sucked. Fortunately Mesko has a steel leg and booted a couple 50+ yard punts to keep Miami honest.

Not sure where that comeback came from, but I'll take it. This Ridley kid could be pretty good one day soon. Hernandez is built like a horse but moves like a cat. And Welker finally played like Welker in the second half.

No Gronk Smash this week, but hey a win is a win.

I hear the Jets make the playoffs if they win, Cincy loses, Denver loses, Texas A&M wins, my mom makes pot roast on Tuesday, a swarm of locusts shows up in the Meadowlands during a full solar eclipse, Han still shoots Greedo first, and Rex Ryan gives Brandon Jacobs a rust trombone.

Ouch. Merry Christmas, Vikings -- Adrian Peterson's knee exploded yesterday and he tore both his ACL and MCL.

This has been a rough year.... it seems like there's been a lot more high-profile, serious injuries than normal throughout the league.
