2011 NFL Season - A New Game

While I'm sure there are valid reasons to think otherwise, I don't consider blocked kicks to be entirely the kicker's fault. So I won't blame him this week (getting iced would be his fault, regardless of how stupid his coach is).

It can be the kicker's fault, depending how he hits the ball, how much lift he gets. It can also be the holder's fault.

You would think a long FG try would be easier to block, since it has to go more horizontal for distance.

That's usually how it works; once a domino falls, you'll see other guys getting the ax, since no one wants to let an opponent get a jump on negotiating with their targets. (In this case, it's widely expected that Bill Cowher will return to coaching in 2012, and Kirk Ferentz is believed to be considering finally leaping to the NFL following some down years at Iowa, though I don't think he'll ever leave unless he's fired.)

Sparano getting fired is a bit of a surprise since the Dolphins aren't as bad as their record makes them out to be--they've been competitive in most of their games. There are plenty of other HCs I would've thought would get the axe before him.

Sparano's likable, and he did absolutely clown the Patriots with the Wildcat a few years back, but the Dolphins have been stuck in neutral for a while, now, and he was already on borrowed time with Jeff Ireland under fire from ownership, likely needing to make a coaching change in order to save his own job (since both Sparano and Ireland were Parcells hires).

To me the way the Pats win next week is to do that no huddle thing they do that works so well, and open up a big lead Denver can't match. They're not built to come back from 21 down. Won't be easy against that D though.
I really don't believe that Denver will be able to stop the Patriots from putting points up on the board. But, I think the biggest thing that gives Denver a shot is the Pats D..... it's weak enough that Denver's offense may be able put up points to try and keep pace. If Denver something manages to keep pace, it could be an exciting end of the game- a face off of two QBs who you absolutely don't want to have the ball at the end of the game with any time left on the clock.

The realist in me says Denver won't win this matchup. The optimist in me says some real wild shit has happened this season and anything's possible. I'm just hoping for a good, competetive game, whether that means 14-17 or 32-35.

Tebow has apparently buggered up the Broncos master plan. The interesting quote from the article:
A few weeks ago, I was talking with a high-level NFL executive who told me, based on talking directly with the Broncos, that the team's original plan was to play Tebow a few weeks for the fans, and then start with the rebuilding process. Tebow was former coach Josh McDaniels' pick and the Broncos, according to this executive, wanted to move on. They wanted nothing to do with the McDaniels' regime.

I have to wonder how much of Haley's firing is because of his issues with Pioli. I've never liked Haley, but the Chiefs have posted improvements under him. They went backwards this year, but losing so many of their major players as early as they did might do that to you. Perhaps the fact that many of their losses have been blowouts was just too much for him to overcome. I'm kind of excited about the idea of McD going there and beating him twice a year, but it's kind of scary too because I do think that McD has the potential of eventually being a good head coach. We'll see though.

IF and that is a big effin' IF, The Broncos, AND I do mean Tebow beats the Pats.... I'll take my first steps being on the Train or being a "Believer"....STILL think he is one lucky player!!! :)

Tebow this, Tebow that. The dude has replaced Farve on my I'm Tired Of Hearing His Damn Name list.

^What are you even doing here? Shouldn't you be out dancing naked in the streets or something because your team finally has made the playoffs and are currently first in the AFC? :p

At my age, dancing naked is probably not a good idea.
