2011 NFL Season - A New Game

It still feels weird to me that the Broncos suck. I was used to them being good for so long. Kinda like when the 49ers fizzled out years back.

I think the end of the 49ers raign was when they let Mariucci go. Still befuddled at that decision.

Well, he tried an end-run around Terry Donahue to push him out of the GM position; ultimately, the Yorks sided with Donahue. Honestly, I don't blame them and probably would have done the same thing ... in any company, it's rather poor form to reward an employee for trying to muscle out his superior. (I just wouldn't have replaced him with Dennis Erickson.)

In any event, there's at least a small case to be made that Mooch's success was as a result of the house that Seifert built.

This is a joke, right? Some sort of skit or something? :guffaw:

 I thought it was real and just lame, up until the slow clap... but now?

:guffaw:

nevermore, I've come to like the Ravens more and more - but with respect, I hope to God they get stomped this weekend.

(That said, I should be hoping for a squeaker victory I guess - or at least, to not be embarrassed. :alienblush:)

I really want to see Donovan McNabb play like he did last week, but I have a feeling he'll manage more that 39 yards passing this week. I'd still like to see the Vikings lose. A few more Vikings loses and there would be a good chance they'd be blacked out and we'd get more Packers games. I have the NFL package, but a lot of bars have opted out since DirecTV charges businesses an arm and a leg for the package.

Ah, of course, in Week 2, we in Madison, Wisconsin, have to watch Green Bay curbstomp Carolina, but I can't watch Bears / Saints.

God, I wish we could get DirecTV at our apartment complex.

Yeah, it sucks not being able to watch every game of your team on television once you leave the area. Definitely the thing I miss the most about the Philly region. I don't really feel like watching the Redskins instead.

Well, I could watch the Detroit / KC cripple fight on CBS, but I think I'd rather punch myself in the dick with a garlic press.

Carolina looks pretty decent against an obviously very strong opponent.

eta: holy shit, newton can run (and throw)

Not really (regarding GB being "very strong"). Green Bay's defense was absolutely terrible against New Orleans, and they have a rather weak defensive line -- losing Cullen Jenkins was huge for them. Charles Woodson is another year older (and, at 34, well on the wrong age of 30, especially at a high-speed position like cornerback), and their depth at ROLB is questionable at best.

Their offensive power, outside of having possibly the only offensive line in the NFL worse than the Bears', is still world-caliber -- though it's amazing to see them completely shut down by Carolina thus far -- but that defense is a huge concern and it will certainly be the reason they don't repeat last year.

I mean, New Orleans has been held to a field goal against the fucking Bears today -- the Saints hung 34 on the Packers last week.

Edit: Never mind. The Bears just coughed up a massive 79-yard touchdown on 3rd and 12.

Carolina sucks. They didn't have to lose this game but it looks like they will now unless a dramatic turnaround happens; it seems like the last time they scored was 2 hours ago. Newton is a fucking beast though.

Not like it matters at this point, but the Bears just got boned on a Saints "touchdown" after Sproles clearly stepped out of bounds at the 1.

Can't challenge scoring plays anymore, either, so this "booth review of all scoring plays" is bullshit.

One of those cripple teams is not like the other...is there a chance Detroit's finally rounded the corner?

Depends on whether or not Matt Stafford's shoulder has finally rounded the corner.

Well, Carolina may still be losing, but I won't leave Newton on the bench anymore, he's making almost 30 fantasy points on yahoo again the second week in a row.
