2011 MLB Season Discussion

Giants just swept a 6 game home/NL West stand. I know it's early, but that is a very good thing. I went to my first game of the season on Tuesday night and it was fun. Looking forward to next week where I start my Southern California trip taking in a Giants game at Dodger Stadium. Should be fun.

Well there's the pickle on the giant gravel sandwich that has so far been tonight's game: Yanks finally hit a HR. Done by Cano, I might add. :techman: :D

(Side note: If Keith Olbermann is such a Yankee fan, what was he doing in the Royals' broadcast booth? YES crew must not have wanted him. )

Over-react much?

It's baseball, guys get hit all the time. And if they intentionally throw at someone, it's generally not at their head.

... unless they're named Joba Chamberlain.

...or Pedro Martinez. Im a Sox fan through and through, and adore Pedro, but even I recognize he could be a headhunter when pissed off or shown up.

...or Clemens, he was good for a bean ball once in a while. And if he didn't have a ball, a bat shard worked as well.

Wrong place, wrong time.

You really don't see the problem with that? You can't flip out and do the whole "fuck you, you piece of shit" when your guy gets hit (assuming not intentional, by circumstance) and then shrug it off and not care when YOUR team does it ON PURPOSE because it's part of the game.

Your reaction to the second one is fine, as one way or the other, it sort of self-polices itself. But your reaction to the first is pretty over the top, and makes you look like an ass in light of the second comment. Or fanboy homer at best, i guess.

Besides, if you're going to freak out every time this happens, you'll have a stroke. Jeter's probably the worst offender for wearing his elbow guard and then leaning over about the entire plate. For some of that shit, wish the umpires had the stones to just call it a strike because he was IN the strike zone. They do, on rare occasions, but most people still get rewarded for leaning in and taking one, or refusing to make an attempt to avoid the ball, if it's coming at them....

Went to the Twins game last night. Had great seats- a friend managed to get us player comp tickets so we ended up sitting with all the Twins players' wives. It was awfully tough at times not to cut down the players (with Rene Rivera and his .000 average, I couldn't help but mouth off), but with all the wives sitting there we felt we had watch what we said. Kind of put a damper on things (seeing them lose yet again didn't help either).

Yeah, what happened to the Twins this year? They are digging themselves quite a hole. Middle of May is more than just a slow start.

I'm starting to hear all sorts of trade rumors about Reyes and Beltran on the Mess. Both are playing well with expiring contracts, so hopefully they get somethig good in return. This team, as currently constituted, is going nowhere. Blowing it up and rebuilding makes sense, especially if a new ownership partner is coming on board.

I'd like to see some pitching prospects in return, both the rotation and the bullpen suck. Hopefully they'll be decent again in a couple years.

David Rackley is a sack of shit.

^

Thing is, it's a lot easier to shrug off getting hit in the foot. Obviously Cano wasn't hurt by that. But the other night, it was his HEAD. That could have seriously injured him. That's mainly why I freaked. For all we knew at that time, it could have ended Cano's season.

I mean, remember what happened to Jason Bay last year? Slams into the wall at Dodger Stadium, and it's only NOW that he comes back. That was also a head injury. That almost happened here too.

Sure, but the way you flipped out about it, you made it seem like it had been intentional, when it clearly wasn't. It was obvious that the pitch had just gotten away from Adcock.

Yeah, but concussions really aren't that big of a deal in baseball. Baseball is never going to have an equivalent to Eric Lindros.

That's more like it! Jays sweep the Twins and Bautista puts up three homers in the series finale. Regardless of what happens to the team as a whole this year, it looks like people who criticized his big contract are going to be eating a lot of crow for a long time :techman:

^ Hell, given his current numbers (16 HR, .368 average, and 1.3+ OPS) I think it's pretty fair to say they're underpaying him.

True that. If he could somehow find a way to throw one at Robinson Cano I'd give him a controlling stake in Rogers Communications. ;)

It's weird saying this on May 16th, but the Red Sox are finally back to .500!

And what a way to do it: sweeping the Yankees in the Bronx. :techman:
