(2011)-2012 NBA Season

An hour, or maybe a couple hours (?) later as I recall. I'd also chalk it up to not thinking about it/major brain fart/horrible mistake myself. But I guess it's ultimately a minor issue and will be remembered (if at all) as a racist slip.

That was my reaction. At first I didn't get it because you hear that expression from time to time, chink meaning a small dent or something similar. Is it possible that whoever wrote it simply didn't think about it? Just a major brain fart as it were? Finally I was like, "Ohhh....okay." The expression is usually uttered in a benign context. Didn't an editor catch it almost immediately and take it down?

Ok, I will freely admit I was ignorant about this expression and I do feel a little bad for the employee who got fired. Maybe a suspension was necessary, but I thought the termination was a little harsh and again, that's me not knowing what this expression meant originally (And still not entirely getting it). I felt the exact same way with the whole Wayne Simmonds banana peel thing, which probably tells me I need to brush up on expressions I can and cannot use.

Yeah, a chink is small flaw or dent in a hard surface. I've heard the expression a thousand times in my life. My mind literally didn't even make the connection between the word "chink" and a racial slur because the expression is fairly ubiquitous. Was the writer's termination permanent or a temporary suspension?

The writer was fired, then there was a reporter who was suspended for 30 days.

That's the way to get it done, my Thunder. Just play your game. You find a way to win. Keep doing what you're doing, pray that Tabo Sefalosa and his stringent defense can return to the lineup before too much longer (longest damn "day to day" with that foot injury of his I've ever experienced) and you can accomplish anything. Whether that fat ass Charles Barkley ever acknowledges it or not.

I wonder if LeBron will be too scared to take the final shot against the Thunder like he was in the All star game. I sure hope so.

I don't think barely scraping by against a team that has lost four out of their last five says all that much.

BTW, Barkley lost a lot of weight :p

17 turnovers a game won't win the big enchilada.

And the Magic aren't gonna win anything either.

I love the Thunder, just don't think they're quite championship material yet...

They just scream too young to me. Which doesn't mean shit. But in a but in a short, condensed season, young legs could help.

Who knows, the last time there was a lockout, an 8 seed got to the Finals.

Not only are they young (but their nucleus has been together 3 seasons now) but they have the best bench in the NBA. That's what gives them a legitimate chance along with their youth and stamina during this season's shortened, busier schedules. A year ago, they'd have lost both that Philly game and the Magic game. Plus, Perkins actually being healthy this year helps.

That being said, with Westbrook's tender ankle from Howard tripping him up and with him probably not playing Saturday, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't win at Atlanta. We have a terrific back up point guard in Maynard, who's out for the duration. They need to pick up a back up point guard before the trading deadline. That worries me.

You're referring to the Knicks, right? Hard to remember back that far. They certainly weren't a young team back then. The Spurs were young but that '98-'99 team was the start of a mini-dynasty. I'm not sure what affect, if any, a shortened season has on the eventual Finals participants, although I keep reading that it favors young teams. Sixty-six games is less than eighty-two so that says to me the older teams are helped more by a shortened season. The other thing is that the playoffs still require 16 wins to get a championship. That is also not affected by a shortened season.

If I had to pick the Finals right now, like just about everyone, I'd pick the Thunder and the Heat, with the heat winning in 6 games. But regardless of who they play, if the Heat don't win a championship this season, LeBron will likely end up like Dirk (if he is lucky) and finally get a one-and-done ring in his 14th or 15th season. But just for the record, I wouldn't be too surprised at the Bulls sneaking in there, though every time I see Carlos Boozer playing 4 for them, I think, no way are they a serious contender.

Speaking of LeBron, I know he is attempting to remake himself from a Jordan wannabe into a "Magic Johnson" simply by proclamation. He is NOTHING like Magic. As I have said for a while now, his career arc and who he is as a player, remind me more of Oscar Robertson. The Big O, just like LeBron, would put up monster numbers especially in the regular season but could not make his team into a contender.

It was not until Oscar embraced his role as a sidekick (to a young Abdul-Jabbar), that he got a ring. LeBron is a sidekick with superstar athletics. He would take a big step toward that ring by doing what "O" did and embracing that role. But this would require true humility and LeBron does not possess any of that...yet.

I love wins against elite teams on national T.V. as much as I hate losses to any team on national T.V. Another great game from Phantom of the Mamba -- leading the league in scoring at age 33.

To the teams in the west who are on top right now, nothing is written in stone. It is not about how you're playing in March, it is about how you are playing at the end of April, and in May, and June.

Rajon Rondo..... 18 points, 20 assists, 17 rebounds!!!

Only TWO players in history have ever had a better line than that: Wilt and Oscar!!

The assists and rebound totals are fantastic, but the 18 points were kind of bogus. He shot 7-20, pretty typical of Rondo. The guy is an enigma. As good as he is, he has such a flawed offensive game. When trade rumors surfaced a week or two ago, Pau for Rondo +, my feeling was that the Lakers would be giving up too much.

I wouldn't mind having him on the Lakers because he is a upgrade over what we have, but not if it costs Pau. With Rondo's inability to hit from outside, the Lakers would pretty much be back where they are now -- in need of a point guard who can hit from the perimeter.

I'm not sure if you watched the game, but the majority of his missed points were from layups which he typically makes.

Somewhat surprisingly, under relaxed conditions, Rondo's actually a pretty damn good shooter from the outside. Here's a HORSE competition between Durant and Rondo that gives you an idea of what he's capable of.

Having said that, his free throw shooting is the biggest issue right now which is around 61%. Teams, down the stretch, tend to resort to hack-a-rondo when he starts penetrating to neutralize him.

All in all, great games today.

Rondo had a very good game, but he did it at a day when Deron Williams scored 57 so he has to share the spotlight a bit. Plus, whenever anyone scores over 50, they have to share the spotlight with Wilt Chamberlain (especially since the anniversary of the 100 point game is coming up shortly).

Anyway, very cool game. Certainly Big O type numbers. His shooting percentage could be higher but, on a plus side, his assists to turnover ratio has got to be good ;)
