2010 Winter Olympic Games: Starting Tonight

I won't even tell you my first thoughts when the 4 "welcome poles" were raised. Not meaning to be disrespectful, but they dissed the position of head of state, so you'll forgive me if I don't feel too sorry.

Jump to conclusions much? Somehow I doubt they were responsible for their own transportation.

Heh, that's a hell of a group for the Olympic flag entrance: An actor, a singer, an astronaut, a general, a hockey player, an Olympian, the mother of a humanitarian/athlete, and a race car driver.

Ouchhhh, I hear NBC went to commercial break when Garou took the stage? Rude. :p

Eeeeek hydraulics fail!!

I turned it off after 20 minutes. What a train wreck.

First, the native leaders didn't arrive in time, so they missed their chance to be recognized as heads of state with the Governor General and the PM.

They actually explained this when the four host nations came out. The leaders didn't arrive until then, entering the box when the dancers entered the stage. Why, I'm not sure...but it did seem intentional.

So you're saying NBC isn't showing the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies live? Wow!

We have a thread about this in the Sports forum. I think that's pretty much where it should go.

And no it's not on now because I have to wait another hour just to get a fucking delay. Die NBC, Die a slow painful gruesome death.

Not on the west coast they aren't. 3 hour delay.

I don't know if you can access it from the states, but apparently CTV is streaming every event at ctvolympics.ca

This is the first time I've ever watched more than 10 minutes of an opening ceremonies - fairly impressive, actually. Some really well-done segments, some that are horribly cheesy (GIANT STAR BEAR! :wtf:), but on the whole I'm impressed.

What did/do you think of the opening ceremony, I thought the whale/salmon/ tree sequence was cool, I could have done with out the fiddles though.
And was that Donald Sutherland doing the narration?

The fiddles were my favourite part of the cultural presentation. I have a soft spot for Celtic music, though. ;)
