2009 film subtitle

Anyone remember that very very first teaser trailer for what would become Discovery? All it had was a logo in that Discovery font, but they way they did it I thought the show was STAR/TREK.

It's so edgy someone should use it.

I think the idea that this would be the takeoff point for the franchise from no one kind of meant it HAD To just be Star Trek. Instead the three movies are just sorta outliers which makes it all stranger. Trying to subtitle it retroactively if they ever did release another movie called Star Trek would just draw attention to the old one, and they'd probably rather not do that.

just call it ST 11, maybe.

Ideally, the subtitle would make some statement about the plot. Unless, of course, you argue that "(2009)" is a statement in itself (i.e. this is what the original Star Trek would look like if it had been made in 2009 (obviously, the plot is contingent upon TOS existing).)

I remember clearly that during one of the TOS set bridge tours around the time, there was a poster for the movie that called it 'Star Trek: The Future Begins'. Now I know this set tour and its associated posters aren't necessarily canon, but I think that's as close to a canon subtitle as we'll ever get.

If I were to argue anything at all, it's that "Star Trek (2009)" is the de facto title/subtitle, by virtue of having been in continuous use for 15-plus years. Just say that much, and everyone already knows which movie you're talking about.
