2008 Ships of the Line Calendar

Darkman

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Anyone else pick this up yet?

Love January's "Thing from Another World"...wonderful 'history repeating itself' idea

Also some nice new stuff and again, too much 'Enterprise'

Interesing ship 'scale' painting (or is it?) but no Steamrunner! :(

Overall, looking forward to 2008 on my wall.

thoughts?

PS: Hated this year's ornament...not buying it.

Got my two copies (one to keep, one that will go up on the wall of my office at work).

I disagree that there's "too much Enterprise." Both from a fan-interest perspective (the calendar that focused almost entirely on the 1701 sold better than any other recent calendar) and from a marketing perspective (since the next film is to be set in that general setting). And I, personally, really like this calendar this year. If it was all TNG-era stuff, I might not have even bought it.

Personal taste and all that, but hey, MY taste says this is a good calendar.

And the steamrunner... seriously, it's an incidental ship that no one but a hardcore fan would even recognize. Seen on-screen only once, in a blurry fleet-action shot, right? I don't miss it at all. Didn't miss the Sabre class either. No Grissom-type ship up there either, was there? And it, at least, was shown in solo shots in high-resolution, on film.

I'm guessing you've taken a personal interest in that ship... which is fine... but it seems you're lacking in perspective, just a bit, re: this.

?!??
Okay, I haven't seen the calendar in person, but one of the pictures on the back cover looks very familiar. It's the top right one, kinda looks like a one of those boats with a large side paddlewheel. I just can't remember where I've seen it! I don't think it was a TrekBBS art challenge, but it was from a challenge somewhere.... Anybody clue me in?

Thank you :)

It looks like a funky shuttle craft.

It's described in the title (and by appearance) as some sort of specialized ice-planet exploratory vessel. I get the impression that it's supposed to be an ice-borer... melting its way through to, for instance, a volcanically-warmed ocean. Kind of like what we have on Europa here in our own system.

(The sub-ice oceans of Europa are the only place in our solar system where it's actually reasonably likely that we may find life, by the way.)

**shrugs** It's OK.

I do have to agree with one of the comments that was posted at amazon.com, though: Another image of the Enterprise in a hangar?! Come on, fellas... the show is called Star Trek, not Star Dock.

That was made by a friend of mine named Clawhammer, at least online, and I believe that it was for a competition at SCN.

I've never bought a Trek Calendar before... mostly because I've never ever used a calendar. (I've received several as presents.)

BUT

What I'd like to know is how long have these calendars been going on? & Would it be possible to purchase a High-Res Compendium of these Images from whoever puts them out? (Kinda like an E-Book but with Images instead of Text?)

I'm always interested in new Desktop Wallpapers.

no online pics that I know of, but there is this:

That is cool! It would be fun to see that in a show or movie. :)

I noticed it too...as it is VERY close to my Star of the North ship design for the Steam Trek Art Challenge we had a while back.

Interesting...very interesting.

I find it interesting that they would use a fan built non cannon model for the calender rather than a ship from one of the shows.

It is a good model though.

I've seen it posted at Scifi-Meshes.com, and I seem to remember something about it being a model for a (non-SFM) competition.
