NFL Matchup: If 2008 Detroit Lions (0-16) played 2017 Cleveland Browns (currently 0-14), who would win?

You are about three forums too high.

But this is a tough call. I'd go with the Lions. But I'm a Giants fan and they aren't much better off.

I'd say the Lions, since this years' Browns are so much more experienced at tanking.

4-12, 5-11, 4-12, 7-9, 3-13, 1-15, 0-14 (so far). The worst part is, they can't make a #1 pick for anything, so it's a complete waste of time. The Browns should be contracted right back out of the NFL.

The Lions went winless because Matt Millen managed to somehow be an even worse GM than a color commentator.

The Browns are owned by a literal criminal who drafted Johnny Football because a hobo told him to. And Josh Rosen is now making noise about staying in school for his senior year because he doesn't want anything to do with the Browns. I think it's clear which team is a bigger joke.

According to fivethirtyeight, Browns have 1202, Lions had 1213. If you put stock in that website Browns are slightly worse.

I was looking over their stats between each. I'd say their offenses are about the same. Browns have a better defense but they also turn the ball over a lot more.

Average score of the 2008 Detroit games was 32.3125 to 16.75 or a loss by 15.5625 pts
Average score of the 2017 Cleveland games is currently 25.4666 to 14 or a loss by 11.4667 pts

Cleveland also went into overtime games twice. Probably leaning toward the Browns being the better team

Detroit. The Browns are a joke. I simply can't believe they are going to bring Hue Jackson back for a third year after a 1-30 record.

Browns have now gone to 0-16 as well. I compared the stats of the two teams below.

Detroit has a better quarterback and passing game and passing defense. Browns have a better rushing game and rushing defense. Browns turn the ball over more. Detroit has a better field goal team. Browns have a better kick off return team. Detroit has a better defense against the kick off. Browns are better at punt returns and defending against punt returns.

Lions. Didn't that team have a lot of really close games that could have bounced their way?
On average the Browns were a field goal closer to winning than the Lions and went into overtime twice. But Detroit had a more difficult schedule too. It's basically the Browns with an okay team but a crappy quarterback against Detroit with an okay quarterback but a crappy team.

I checked this site out, figured the numbers would have been updated after the Browns finished their season. It gives Detroit 1241 after they finished their 2008 season and the Browns they gave 1200 after they finished this season.
