1981 Spiderman and Spiderman & Amazing Friends on Netflix

Netflix has added the sparsely seen, syndicated solo Spiderman series to it's streaming service... Excelsior! :p I was under the impression that the show was aired in syndication a year before Amazing Friends hit NBC in 1981, but most web searches are saying that while the show was produced first, it actually ran the same season as AF did. Character designs and background music are the same as in Amazing Friends, so for those who only remember Amazing Friends, getting to watch it's forerunner should prove interesting.

It was produced by the newly formed Marvel Productions, which had risen from the ashes of DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, who had previously produced the 1978 New Fantastic Four and 1979 Spider-Woman… More animated series. The series' character designs and some of the same voices (not Spider-Man himself) were later to be used in the more famous Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends animated series. The character designs for the series were based on the classic style of Spider-Man artist John Romita, and so, were very similar to the visual look of the comics from the mid 60s to the early 80s, when his style was still followed closely by successive artists.

^It felt more like an urban legend to me. I'd never heard of it until a few years ago, and after watching a couple of episodes, I'm baffled as to why it was never put together with Friends to create a 50 episode rerun package (26 for solo Spidey, 24 for AF).

Finally! I had seen these earlier come up in the instant search while watching the Spider-Man '67 collection but they weren't yet available for stream. Hopefully this will lead to other earlier Marvel 'toons showing up like the The Incredible Hulk, New Fantastic Four and Spider-Woman cartoon too!

If you're referring to the mid 80s syndicated Fantastic Four that ran as part of the Marvel Action Hour with Ironman, that show is also on Instant Watch. The entire Marvel Action Hour is mislabeled as Iron Man The Complete Series. One IM, along with one FF episode, complete with Stan Lee's bumpers, have been up since late June.

No I was referring to this.
BTW the Fantasitc Four and Iron man you were thinking of was around '94 not Mid 80's

oh and there was also a cartoon based on Marvel's The Thing but he was a normal kid who turned into The Thing (weird I know). that would be cool to take a peak at again after all these years.
