The fact that so many people still think Obama is a Muslim disturbs me. What is even more disturbing is that the number has gone up and not down.

He didn't go to that church he went to for as long as he did and be able to call himself a Christian, that much just doesn't make sense, you can't hear those kind of sermons and still call yourself a Christian, sorry. I'm not saying he hasn't now made the choice to become one, but back then, at that church, it just doesn't make sense to me that he spent so long there listening to that.

Also, I think 20% of people just like fucking with pollsters.

I can see the debate about evolution having problems in religious corners of the US, but the sun orbiting around the Earth? As they said, didn't we sort this out in the 16th century?

I'd really like to know the size and makeup of the poll sample and how the questions were phrased. Even in America, I'm skeptical that 20% of the population believes the sun revolves around the earth. I mean, they still teach science in school, right? And even the Catholic Church got around to exonerating Galileo. It only took them 400 years.

You heard one 15 second clip repeated over and over on Fox Noise and think you know what Rev. Wright preached over a 20 year span. That is the height of self-delusional ignorance. Did you know that he was quoting another writer when he said "God damn America"? I doubt if the facts will change your mind.

BTW, Jeremiah Wright served in both the Navy and the Marines and received three medals for heroism. Look it up. I think his patriotism is beyond doubt.

I don't know why one should be expected to know the religious affiliation (if any) of another. More distressing is the proportion of those who care.

Under Muslim law Obama is definitely a Muslim, since his father was a Muslim. And since Obama is a Muslim under Muslim law, he must observe Muslim law and recognize his Muslimity, since he's under Muslim law because he's a Muslim, and he's a Muslim because he's under Muslim law which says he's a Muslim because his father was.

Anyway, if he's not a Muslim, why does he celebrate Ramadan with an Iftar dinner?

Celebrating Ramadam is something Muslims due, mainly because they're Muslims. Perhaps a small percentage of people celebrate Ramadan because they like fasting, but those are weirdos, and Obama doesn't seem to like fasting. In fact, he seems to like eating greasy burgers at every opportunity. So this suggests that Obama is a practicing fasting Muslim, still obeying Muslim law because Muslim law says he's a Muslim.

My father's side of my family is Muslim, they consider me Muslim. Except there's one problem: I don't believe in God. I don't care what they consider me. I'm not religious and I don't practice religion. Period.

Same principle applies to Obama: it doesn't matter if anyone else considers him Muslim. Does he consider himself Muslim, does he practice Islam? If the answer to both of those is no, then he's not.
