1701 Briefing Room missing in all Kirk era Star Trek films

Although Captain Pike specifically refers to his accomodations in "the Cage/Menagerie" as his "quarters", this set is actually a good candidate for his "day cabin" or "ready room", whereas Kirk's later accomodations would represent the regular senior officers quarters, which Pike might have used as well during his time in command.

The Briefing Room was more for larger discussion with the different department heads, providing information, allowing feedback and the formulation of a course of action.
TMP/Refit should have logically had a Briefing Room on board, but the circumstances in the film moved too quickly for everyone to go to it and have a discussion. The times where it would have been appropriate (Spock's arrival, Genesis proposal tape) they only had three people involved and just held it elsewhere. Using the room in the Recreation Room was a weird choice (and not too private), but the set was cheaper to construct in real world terms.

I would have liked to see what the Refit Briefing Room set might have looked like.

...For all we know, the tough little ship had double duty facilities on Deck 2: a nice and comfortable meeting place for top officers on most days, but guest accommodations for important Fleet personnel whenever those came aboard. Kirk would extend the latter courtesy to his Romulan captive, but he'd also receive genuine Fleet guests often enough that he considered using the room as an office more trouble than worth. (Or then Pike used those flag quarters in the belief that he would never get caught!)

Civilian dignitaries would not be allowed to this "upper sanctum", least of all foreign ones of dubious allegiance. Hence the repeating problems with accommodating ambassadors and envoys, let alone prissy royalty.

I always figured the Ready Room was just a location adjoining the Bridge where the Captain could have a private discussion and have some 'down time' but still be immediately available.

Shane Johnson's Scottys Guide to the Enterprise had a floorplan of it for the refit Enterprise. It was basically the same as the FJ one.

It's a bit amusing that TOS was never an ensemble show, yet that's where the tradition of summoning all the regulars and almost-regulars to a single non-bridge room and occasionally letting others besides the three stars contribute was born.
