11:59

SHANNON: Second Starbucks on the right and straight on 'til morning.

SHANNON: I'm passing through the Oort cloud and Federation survey teams gathering cometary ice samples under the watchful eyes of their Andorian supervisor. It's repetitive work, but will yield valuable data on the orbital shifts of stellar systems.

*sigh*

One day, Shannon. One day...

Pretty close, don’t know if it’s the exact same car…

This is one of the 10-20 eps I never saw on either first airing or in rewatches, until fairly recently when I got more serious about burnishing my Voyager knowledge.

I quite like it. I certainly perceive and understand the flaws, but I also thought the premise was intriguing and admired the storytelling risk they were willing to take. Plus, I find the envelope story on board the ship to be just utterly charming and sweet. People complain about a lack of continuity on Voyager, but the crew felt more like a family to me than the TNG* or DS9 crews ever did.

(*Until the movies, which cemented the TNG-crew-as-family concept very nicely.)

This is an episode that shows off that family dynamic, involving the entire main cast. The scene at the end where they jointly console Janeway, bridging the loneliness of command to cheer her up and win her over, and then culminating in the very cute photo (with Paris and Torres in an adorable embrace), is fantastic to me. It really landed.

Even though I like threshold more, 11:59 was a good episode that shows how our perception of history develops.

Janeway had this idea in her head about one of her ancestors that was totally wrong. And then she discovers that she was wrong.

At first, she starts hating that ancestor, but then she realized that ancestor had a place in her universe as well. It turns out that the ancestor was important, but not in the same way that Janeway originally thought.

The other reason why I liked it is because I am one of the people that would have become lost in Henry Janeways bookstore. They don’t have bookstores like that around anymore

It's one of my favourite episodes for that reason as well. Before the Millennium Gate planners arrived it will have been warm and welcoming with sofas and hot drinks for people to use it like a library. Henry didn't seem like he was concerned with making vast profits and would have been happy turning over the bare minimum to keep the place running. No real organization of stock and he just tells customers to take as long as they need looking for it. Kevin Tigh is also a great actor and versatile in both goodie and baddie roles.

It's not Shannon's fault her story may have been embellished over the generations and Seven sums it in response to the captain saying she no longer views Shannon in the same way.

"Her life captured your imagination. Historical details are irrelevant".

Kathryn is a sensitive and tactful soul so I'm sure she elected not to reveal the truth to Aunt Martha.

It was a little hokey, but a bit of that here and there doesn't hurt. It was also one of those episodes that serves as a bit of a pause of the normal setting of the series. As far as that goes it did just fine.
