10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Trek

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

You know, I'm suddenly kind of very bored by "Star Trek" in general.

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

Yeah. You know, I was just sitting here reading all the "news" and realized that I just don't care that much. Wake me up in May or whenever.

I'm with you. The fact that I won't get excited about a movie for another 10-11 months is boring in itself.

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

I have to admit that I'm losing a tad bit of interest as well, something that probably wouldn't have happened had Paramount kept the original release date.

Just my .02 worth.

Sorry, you're missing the biggest point:

Tom Cruise absolutely has to be in this movie.

Don't be silly. Real Starfleet officers never have to wear (turbo)lifts in their shoes.

Shave and a haircut...
Tad bit!

Hm, not quite the same ring to it.
Just my .02 worth.

Two bits was equal to a quarter, really. ;)

A modern soundtrack that respects the past

No offense, but :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: .

Mission:Impossible films should not even be mentioned in the same paragraph as the concept of "respecting the past".

You know why.

Enlighten me, please. I liked M:I:III. I liked how it started near the end of the story and went next to the beginning and middle and then to the real end. That formula doesn't always work well but it did here for me.

Baba, I think I know what you're doing here, but suppose you explain for me (assume I haven't seen M:I:III) why you believe that the line you quoted from Carpeoccasio's post is so laughable. Please start by demonstrating that you have bothered to read the article from which it was taken, and in particular the text for which the quoted line is the heading. (There's also an accompanying video clip.)

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

I think he's talking about Jim Phelps being a bad guy in the first film. It didn't respect the past Carpeoccasio said "A modern soundtrack that respects the past". Respects the past being the operative phrase.

It waxes and wanes.

Yeah. You know, I was just sitting here reading all the "news" and realized that I just don't care that much. Wake me up in May or whenever.

That has been my attitude for months! LOL!

Make no mistake, when the time comes I am going to be interested. But so many (or at least those who post here!!!) seem to have already decided on whether they will love it or hate it. Even to the point of being fans of performances that they not even seen yet!!!

Its like arguing about what a meal is going to taste like at a new restaurant in the car on the way there. But you are in New York driving towards Los Angeles. Plus you don't even know what is on the menu.

Bingo.
And what, pray tell, does that have to do with the soundtrack for the third film, or with anything in the linked article? Hell, it doesn't even have anything to do with the thread title.

Baba, last time you were here, you resurrected a nine-month-old thread to make an off-topic political slap. Now, you're here making another off-topic drive-by?

Tell me, how should I read this? Give it some thought.

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

I absoluetely HATED Mission Impossible III.

MI:I I like a lot. III was nothing but action and no story. It went from a good movie series to utter crap.

i know why Carpeoccasio said what he did but baba does have point about that phrase respect the past being used in any context with the mi films after what they did in the first.

just glad jj didnt do the first film or we all might be worried that bones would turn out to be a romulan mole.
:p

Re: 10 Things Mission Impossible III Can Teach Us About Abrams Star Tr

Raping the Phelps character in the first film (and, for that matter, not even considering Peter Graves for the role) destroyed this movie series.

Plus the "helicopter chase in the Chunnel" which was endlessly moronic!

One day they'll do another reboot and it might be okay.

Completely destroying the original makes for one shitty new version, IMO.
