10 o clock horses and the boogie man

After reading a thread in the doc who forum it got me thinking when i was little my mum and dad used to say if you don't go to bed or behave the 10 o clock horse's would get me.
Once they used the boogie man but after i refuse to go upstairs untill my dad had killed it they never used that one again.
So i was wondering did any other people parents make things up to get there kid to go to bed at night.

Not really. My parent's weren't that creative. Knowing that it would quickly cause a loss of temper if I didn't go to bed when asked was motive enough to comply.

There was a far side like that where the Mom was tucking in the kid in the upstairs bedroom, while Dad was outside below the window holding a giant balloon with a freaky, devil head drawn onto it. The Mom was telling the kid to go to sleep right away or else the scary, window monster would get him....

I had my own demons to worry about and didn't really need another fictional construct to scare me to submission when I were a lad.

Besides, my parents never threatened me in that way at all. It was more a jocular "shut up and go to sleep" thing when I was very young. Plus, as I got older, they would watch TV a lot in the evenings, so they were nicely distracted for the night while I settled down with my encyclopedias under the bed (and in later years my clock radio).

One of my aunts got me to stop chasing my cousins around a graveyard one by telling us we had to be gone by sunset or the ghosts would get us....
