10 episodes vs more per season

Do you think 10 episodes per season is a good amount or do you want more? Do you think having more would cause fillers episodes or a decline in quality? What about having 10 twice a year as a better solution (or 7/8 to give the actors a bit of a break)?

I’d be all in to go back to the “classic Trek” format of 24-26 episode seasons (TOS S1 had 29 eps…29!). But I realize that is never gonna happen. At least for live action nu-Trek…we did get 20 eps of Prodigy for S1 but broken into two parts.

If it’s well written and planned out I think 15-18 episodes per season would work.

Remember that even though you get 20 episodes of Prodigy per season; each of its episodes is 30 minutes long as compared to 1 hour for the live action; so effectively it's the same amount of hours produced per season as the live action Star Trek series.

The only fans getting short changed in a way are the Lower Decks fans.

As for the OP's question, yeah I wish they would have stuck with 13 per season like they did with Star Trek Discovery when they were co-producing with Netflix and Netflix was footing half the production cost; but yeah those days have passed, and in the world of streaming other than Netflix, most streaming services seem to produce between 5 to 10 episodes per season for whatever show they're producing. I just hope we get at least five to six seasons of SNW minimum.

You're likely to only get 8 next season. Streaming cost-cutting is everywhere.

In terms of TV production it means more money per minute/hour/day of shooting and they shoot them over a longer period of time. I think this is a plus for the franchise. It's never looked better or been more consistent...not perfect, consistent.

I think with the amount of shows they do that ten is probably best. If they were to do some real atypical stuff for new shows I would say even five or just one to be honest.

I'm happy with ten for the series proper, but have to say I'd also love for there to be a few Short Treks between seasons. It seems to be the perfect opportunity to keep the fandom abuzz between seasons, re-use existing sets, bring in one-off cameo appearances, maybe address errant plot threads fans have nitpicked, etc... :)

I’d like to see 14, but I can see these shrink down to 8. My wife and I have been trying to watch several shows: Showtime, HBO, Hulu, Prime et Al. Honestly, it’s getting a little tiresome to keep track. I think we’ll be getting out more in the spring and we’ll be dropping some of our premium channels.

More than 10 is definitely preferable. That could include 2 or 3 part episodes. They have a strong cast as well to diversify the focus of the episodes. It's obviously just a matter of resources otherwise I see no good reason to go beyond 10.

I do want more per year, but I'm prepared to live with the limits if it means the end product stays as good as we've been getting. If they figure out a way to do more and still have the same quality or better, I'll count that a miracle. I do not want these people on either side of the cameras burning out.

If THE WALKING DEAD can do 16 episodes a year, so can SNW.

We won't see 20 or more a season again, so this is a reasonable middle ground.

10-13 episodes per season is fine.

But even if they increased the episode order, I would not expect it to go above 15 episodes per season. Not even DISCO got 20 episodes for a season in this era.

It's a bit different. The Walking Dead films mainly on location and costuming and props are most just real stuff. It doesn't have to include lengthy CGI sequences of ships doing whatnot or go to the sheer lengths of design that SNW goes through. I think almost every episode of S01 featured some kind of new environment or creature.

The work that has gone into the design stuff on SNW is insanely good, but it takes time to think up, then create.

I wouldn't mind them filling things out as TOS or TNG did with more stories set entirely on the Enterprise. It cuts costs and it's not like interesting episodes have never come of that.

Maybe the crew encounters a Walking Dead planet. And the entire episode is set there and only there.

It just means SNW will have to do more bottle episodes.

It doesn’t have to be the Enterprise, there are a dozen Constitution class ship flying around.

And there have to be a few more Jupiter Stations set up around the quadrant as well.
