I can't help but think back to one of the interviews that I saw with the ladies who play Genesis and Tarima where they said that they were glad that they didn't pit the women characters against each other over a man. They didn't say anything about pitting two men against each other over a man.

I also have to say I'm glad they didn't go for the fanservice of having the female mains into one another, and are instead leaning into M/M pairings.

Not to say that budding young lesbian romance doesn't have a role too, but in a mainstream TV show, I worry it would play too much like having hot girls make out as fanservice for all the straight men watching.

Indeed. Ever since the "lesbians as male gaze" exemption to homophobia became mainstream in the '00s I have looked upon the inclusion with suspicion. Not a reason to leave it out by any means, for sure, but something for me to consider. I mostly don't see it now.

TV has tons of lesbians still, of course, though their romances are seldom offered up for titillation any longer. Often they're more a 'by the way..." type thing offered about the character, and their romance isn't even sexualized at all.

Reno/Thok fits into this quite well, TBH. We know they're together, but I don't think we're going to see them snog (if for no other reason than because Gina Yashere's makeup would come loose).

I also don't think it would fit their characters. Lura strikes me as the type to be affectionate in private and Reno is a pretty low-key viber who has nothing to prove.
