A good bad influence

CBS just made the first episode available for everyone on YouTube. Looks like CBS is throwing us international fans a bone. Although that's just as likely a promotional thing and the benefit for international fans is just incidental.

Either way, here's the episode:

I don't know if I ever liked a new Trek show this quickly. I love “Emissary” and “Caretaker”, but I don't remember if this was only after seeing more of the following episodes or right from the get-go. I just hope Lower Decks can keep up this quality. Or maybe even improve. :)

I hope the international broadcast deals get sorted out soon, as I can't wait to see more.
Yeah, would be nice if they at the very least revealed just when this will be available globally. The waiting is bad enough, but not even knowing how long we'll have to wait? That's cruel. :sigh:

Also, I seem to have a bit of a crush on Rutherford... :adore:
Understandable. He has a beautiful, soft voice. And his character seems just a little naive, which is charming.

… aaand it's gone. At least for international viewers. So maybe it was incidental after all. :(

Just watched it, I liked the episode.
Both Discovery and Picard had nothing to make me want to watch them, this show I would watch if it was on a free stream. Not going to subscribe to the CBS All Access still..

Looks like I watched it before it was locked (I'm in England)! I thought they'd done it so that we international viewers could get a taste, shame if that wasn't the case.
I was very pleasantly surprised, it was much better than I'd anticipated with several genuinelgenuine out loud moments. It actually reflected quite a few Trek convos I've had with my friend along the lines of "why do the tricorders on trek never break down?" and "what happens after..". Even my son said it was good after it ended and he's not easy to please. I'd watch all of that happily and probably enjoy the hell out of it.

It was said this upload was a time-limited release. I'm glad I got to watch it.

Read everything and watched every public scene previously released, but I had still gotten plot points wrong until I watched the whole ep.

The LD release on CBSAA was pulled forward two months to accommodate the delay of DSC S3. Presumably, the international distribution is thus 2 months behind. Unless it's a Short Treks situation, and there is no international release.

^^this

I went in almost with sour expectations since DSC was a mixed bag (I've grown to like it a bit more since), PIC was just a dour stinker (and largely still is, save for a couple Riker scenes and Frakes can make anything daft look good on screen), but as the LD episode continued I simply loved it more and more as it continued. The casting, formula, animation style, storylines - I have to complain that I've nothing to complain about and I hate it. :guffaw:

With luck LD will get an international release. Why shouldn't it?

(I'd mentioned the animation once before, with those completely computer-generated circle eyes that are in all shows because it takes less time to draw 24 nuanced frame features per second, but given all the background and side details and some depth of field - all that more than makes up for it. It's great stuff. :techman:
