“Jean-Luc Picard is back”: will new Picard show eclipse Discovery?

I hope the show will have a few guest stars. Like maybe we could see B4 for example... Or Deanna and Will as a couple, maybe with children.

And was worse for it, from an overall perspective. It lost its sense of fun and adventure. If Discovery had that sense of fun and adventure, I could easily forgive its other flaws. Instead, it plays very much like 24th century Trek, where it takes itself and its subject matter way too seriously.

Swings and roundabouts. I like the internal continuity it picked up as a result.

Of course, change it’s name to protomatter, you can stick it in same box as the genesis torpedo, because they’re gonna find out it’s all unstable and destroying the universe...or red matter eruptions are, hence Spock hearing the call...but...it’s just damn silly.
Exactly, save for the silly part. It's par for the course for Star Trek.
And you can bet it inherited its parents reset button, even if it got none of its charm or common sense.
I can? Because, I can say a lot of things about VOY, both positive and negative, but I would not give it charm or common sense.
BSG had a least a few likeable characters. Not every one was a asshole.
If we must compare the two, give me DSC. I at least can watch an episode and not want to slit my wrists by the end. I had to give up on BSG because it made me so depressed.

Then only character I liked there was Lorca and they killed him off. Couldn't care less about the other people. I still don't know their names. :)

Probably around 1990. When Rick Berman became firmly in control of the franchise.

Sorry . . . I don't agree. Not in a million years.

I liked Season One of 'BSG". After its first season, it became increasingly difficult for me to like it. It's not that I found it depressing. I didn't have a problem with that. I just found the writing increasingly hard to admire. And when the series did the whole arc about many of the colonists being held prisoners by the Cylons, I just gave up.

Hard to think that before that Breaking Bad thing, people used to say that BSG was the greatest TV show ever.

Threshold is more plausible...if at warp ten tom was everywhere in the universe, then somewhere in that everywhere was something that mutated him :p
.

I think when you're reduced to defending "Threshold" as more plausible, you're fighting a losing battle. :)

Seriously, we're talking about a franchise whose most iconic character is a green-blooded telepath with elf ears, who is the result of a copper-based organism successfully cross-breeding with an iron-based organism.

And yet cosmic subspace fungus is a bridge too far?

And, yes, we all have different thresholds (if you'll pardon the expression) for how far we'll suspend our disbelief, but the mushroom drive is not qualitatively different than any number of far-out concepts STAR TREK has embraced over the last fifty-plus years.
