I keep the subscription. I want the option to watch New Trek whenever I want and I'm not going to buy all of the seasons of all the series on Blu-Ray.
It will look more fabulous on 4K which is what's presented on CBSAA, and I believe the service will continue to update the picture quality as the streaming service grows.I keep the subscription. I just got a new TV last week, actually. It's 4K and I immediately noticed the difference in picture quality. It will look more fabulous on 4K which is what's presented on CBSAA, and I believe the service will continue to update the picture quality as the streaming service grows.
Why?"Star Trek" I love ya, but Kahless's balls, slow down a little.
Why?
You don't have to watch it all.

You don't have to watch it all.
I love Marvel and DC, but I don't watch all their content. There's a ridiculous amount of shows out there, and while there are many I loved I don't have time/motivation for them all. They want Trek to be that huge, so for better or worse that's the road they're taking. So far I've enjoyed all their output, but if they come up with concepts I've no interest in I'll just watch something else until the next seasons of the shows I do like.I actually do think Star Trek should pace itself. We should have eight series (not including cartoons aimed at children)... but only over the span of the entire decade of the 2020s. You don't want to come out with everything all at once or you won't have anything saved for later.
What would've happened if TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT all came out between 1987 and 1990? Even with shorter seasons, they'd have had to have come up with other series to replace those after they would've run their course. At some point, you come up short. It's going to happen. I'd rather it be later than sooner, but it'll happen eventually. So, in 2025, I'd rather not be in a situation where I'm actually deciding I'm not going to watch some burned out version of what we have now.
Exactly my view. I guess I got to that in various franchises early (not a TNG fan, didn't like the prequels, skipped Stargate: Universe, etc.). I fi I don't like something then I don't watch it. I don't think CBS' output is going to change that fact, so might as well get to stuff I don't like sooner rather than later.I love Marvel and DC, but I don't watch all their content. Given the level of quality control was so low with VOY and early ENT (lots of mediocre episodes, few good ones, most of the plots were TNG retreads) it was really, really disappointing to tune in week after week hoping for something bold...and getting something beige instead.
In a certain way, I feel like mediocre Trek is worse for this than bad Trek. Bad Trek you can at least hate watch, or go all MST3K on, or whatever. But something good enough to not be bad, but not good enough to tell an original story....it's just there.

Why? What's the worst that happens? That Star Trek would become like a comic book or superhero franchise has been among my biggest fears of the post-2009 era.
Same here. It's a massive universe and there is lots of potential to explore.I am actually quite happy to see CBS realize that they have an IP with a massive universe that fits perfectly into the modern landscape of streaming shows and capitalize on it. I even appreciate the risks they're taking with some things: Lower Decks could have been a disaster but ended its season quite strongly and I ended up really enjoying it.

It isn't.If a job and sleep gets in the way of 2 hours in a week, then TV viewing obviously shouldn't be a priority.
