‘TREK vs. TRANSFORMERS’ Crossover Comic

I came away with the impression that there were so many layers of approval involved in even getting such a crossover out the door that the resulting story was all they were allowed to do.

I listened to some podcast interviews with the creators, and it seems that the BBC gave very little (to no) feedback on the comic.

"Prime's Directive?" Heh. I guess that was inevitable. Although a bit derivative, given that the Planet of the Apes crossover was called The Primate Directive. (Yet another reason why it really should've been called A Primate Little War.)

Read the first issue. The kindest thing I can say is, I'm clearly NOT the target audience for this.

Did Spock really have to say that the Transformers are "more than meets the eye"? Seriously? :barf:

Well, somebody had to, I guess. Anyway, the saying was around long before Transformers existed (it dates back to the 1800s). The reason it's in the theme song is because it was already a well-known saying. So it's a wink to the readers, sure, but not a forced or unnatural one.

I have never been into "Transformers", but my elementary-aged students were crazy about the toys in the 80s. I love TAS and so the featuring of Arex and M'Ress, and the artist's obvious fondness for how TAS cels were framed, made this comic a winner.

The existence of other lazy jokes doesn’t win a pass when someone else does it.

I wasn't trying to defend it, I was conceding that I now see your point. I hated that "star trek" line too -- heck, it's even worse than "more than meets the eye," since at least that's a phrase people would actually use in conversation. Nobody would say "some sort of star trek," ever. (Honestly, I've always thought Star Trek was a pretty dumb title. Ironic that the parody title Galaxy Quest sounds so much more appropriate and elegant.)

Now I'm imagining a nearby parallel reality where the debate whether we should be called "Questors" or "Questees" rages on...
