Yeah, even as someone who didn't feel betrayed or upset by the final season and the finale in particular, I have noticed my interest has dropped severely. I'll probably watch House of the Dragon purely for Matt Smith (even if he feels miscast in the trailer) and Sonoya Mizuno (who isn't even seen in the trailer but is a cast member). The rest feels very much the same as before aside from large dragons at the beginning of the show.

There's been a story running around the past week about how there was a big ruckus about which spin-off would be done (or at least first) but I haven't read any of the articles on it. Partially because I'm rather baffled that this was the show that came out on top and not the Naomi Watts show (which sounded promising) or several of the other ideas that have been running around.

But as this particular thread has demonstrated, good ideas don't seem to be the leading interest. I'll take the Long Night and adventures of Arya over House Targaryen and Jon Snow.

I didn't hate the final season, either, but this still looks dull as hell. The trailers don't give me a Game of Thrones feel at all. It looks more like a crappy knockoff with little understanding of where the success came from in the first place.

I think House of the Dragon has restored my interest in the franchise.

I really like everything about the ending on paper in terms of who lived/dies/won/lost but jeysus the execution was shockingly bad. With the exception of the night before the Winterfell battle and the high quality of the shocking sacking of Kings Landing it was terrible. Your definitely right it needed more episodes to slow it down a bit. But there is also some awful very not GoT stuff like a whole army getting wiped out and Jorah conveniently survives (or the fact they even had an army out in the field). Same with the later zombie hugs scene or that no one shot the giant with the magic arrow that would kill him with the slightest touch

Can't see Maisie Williams wanting to go back. None of here stuff since has been amazing but see seems to be the most successful as a general celebrity in an Emma Watson sort of way. Seems happy doing her own thing.

I'll watch. I hope HBO has GOT spinoffs on 5 nights a week eventually.

If anyone is interested, HBO Max released the full Comic-Con panel for House of the Dragon. The first half of it goes a long way in helping generate interest in the show for me and the storytelling potential, if for no other reason than because of the level engagement and excitement from the actors present at the panel.

That said, the moderator isn't all that good and some of his questions, especially towards the end before the fan Q&A, are pretty dumb. Fan Q&A is always hit and miss but this one was definitely more miss than hit (and that's before the dumb fan who thought it was a great idea to make a Morbius joke to Matt Smith as his question).

I think that on a whole, because the entire season was shortened, not everything aligned perfectly. Everything they did ended up[ having an exaggerated feeling. They really should have spent more money to do it properly.

It should have had another season. As it was the final two seasons were compacted too much, and all the show really needed was to be extended by just a few more episodes. That would have given time to keep the intricacies of the political elements needed to add the depth those final seasons needed.

Yeah, agreed. It was like fitting the fall of Rome into just a few days. Too compact.

Will this show even happen now? Is Discovery planning to give mainline HBO a high enough budget to make shows like this?

I'm thinking likely not. They're already stuck with House of the Dragon, which I'm sure will be a massive budget-hog. If the Jon Snow show is even remotely a thing, it's not far into pre-prod, they'll likely pull the plug on it and wait to see how Dragon does. Jon might be one Targaryen too far. :)

...which would be the one smart thing Discovery has done, if only by accident.

Not specifically about this show, but if mainline HBO gets their budget severely slashed it would be a tragedy for quality television.

On a GOT side note…Dinklage was to play Hop-Frog in a movie called THE JESTER… but I have heard nothing since 2013.

Any idea as to the stalled effort?
