I usually pick shows and movies based on broad themes—I try the ones I find that fit those themes within the limits of my available time. What I don’t do is judge quality before experiencing it.

Sometimes I just pick things at random and take a chance. I do that with food and drink, music, art, etc. I like surprises.

Ugh, I hope not. I loved the idea of Bran being the king with Tyrion as the Hand. Jon Snow needs to bugger off already.

    Oh, wait. He already did.

Anything to undo the masturbatory "Bran should be King because he has the BEST STORY" can only be a good thing.

Jon Snow has a change of heart and decides he wants it.

Jon Snow ventures into the deep north and discovers an off-shoot of The White Walkers awoken from hibernation by the death of The Night King (led by The Night Queen, of course).

LOL whatever. I frackin' loved GoT. But boy, they're gonna have to blow me out of the water with House of the Dragon to win back any goodwill after the season 8 clusterfuck - then I might have a shred of enthusiasm for any additional productions. Hard to imagine it'll be this.

Make it like the littlest hobo. Jon and Ghost wander into a new village in the north every week, sort out everyone’s problems and wander off.

    That's a show I might actually watch.

I don’t think it’s desperation on Harrington’s part as I’m pretty sure he earned enough from GoT to never work again should he choose.

Still, not even remotely interested in this show. I love GoT, even the ending, but it should be left where it is, flaws and all.

I like the ending of GoT as well with my only two complaints being that the writing suffered a drop in depth and quality when they moved beyond the novels, and that the final two seasons were rushed.

Yeah, same here. Just exactly would they go with this? And then there's the fact that GoT's ending soured people, and this would only serve to remind people. Unless they do a course-correction by having Bran die. It feels like a solution in search of a problem though. Either way, there's going to need some heavy lifting for it to work.

Agreed (even if I'm one of the few people who had no problems with the ending). Which is another reason why doing an Arya series makes more sense because such a series would sidestep that issue with her traveling beyond Westeros entirely.

Assuming, of course, Maisie Williams would even be interested and I wouldn't be surprised if she wants to branch out from Game of Thrones for the foreseeable future.

Which brings us back to the fact that this show was Kit Harrington's idea.

I'm still very...meh...on the whole thing.

Yeah, aside from how the whole Cersei/Jaimie/Daenerys part of the story unfolded, I was actually pretty pleased on the whole with the ending. In fact, I feel it would have been more disappointing had they done the expected. I know Bran wasn't a popular choice, but it was completely unexpected and somewhat refreshing to see IMHO. The only thing they really needed to do was have a bit more episodes that season to lead it in that direction as I can understand why some weren't too happy.

But yeah, an Arya series makes more sense given that it's one character that has much more room to grow, given the kind of training she was given. It also has more of chance to kind of touch on aspects of Westeros years later after the climatic battle has occurred.

And (I know I keep harping on this point but...) Arya is just a much more fascinating character than Jon Snow.

I would be very much down for an Arya show, but I don't see Maisie Williams being interested in one anytime soon, and I don't blame her.

As for the Jon Snow show . . . I was one of those very much not on board for how GoT ended, to the point that it kinda poisoned the rest of the show for me. None of that was down to the acting though, and since I gather the old showrunners are out of the franchise now (right?!) , I'll probably give it a shot. Kit Harrington was always great in the role and if it's well done it could work. Even so, my initial attitude remains sceptical.

She is, and as a character, she has more potential for both physical and emotional growth than Jon Snow. And unlike Jon Snow, it's not like she has to be tied down to any one location, and because of her age, doesn't need to be.

I think GoT was the greatest series ever , and yes I liked the ending too. So I welcome any kind of sequel.

But I rather it be a proper sequel and not focus on just one of the characters. But they probably won’t do a show like that unless the story ideas came from GRRM. And he probably won’t be interested in that until he finishes the last 2 books, which is probably never.

Could have sworn we had an earlier thread for the first batch of prequel shows that were in development, but a forum search came up empty. Oh well, in here this goes then:

Well, what can I say, didn't show up when I did my search, and I think it might have been because the 'of' in 'Game of Thrones' was spelled with a capital-O in the thread title. That, and it's been over nine months since the last post, so if the mods want to resurrect that thread, let them move my post over there.

I searched just "throne" because, yeah, the search engine doesn't like short, common words.

As for resurrecting it, I don't think there's any harm in it since it was the main discussion thread for that that show and this is the first proper trailer.

I think I said last year that my interest was lukewarm, and after giving the trailer a shot I think I may have to update that to "tepid". I don't know. It's really hard for me to feel excited for this franchise again. It all just seems more fo the same, only with characters I don't know yet and thus don't really care about having epic dragon battles. Nothing of the visual style seems to set it apart from GoT, nothing really jumps out as interesting or unexpected. I'll still give it a shot, but I feel like unless it blows my hair back out of the gate, it's going to be an uphill battle to make it past episode 3.
Kinda telling though that the thread has been dead for almost a year, no? It's kinda wild considering GoT ruled the roost in genre culture discussion for years, but now; outside of the specific little corners of the internet dedicated to the fandom that stuck around . . . it's basically crickets.
