News ‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series in the Works at Paramount+

Somewhere in Hollywood there's an executive who's watched The Orville try to move from parody to darker, more serious Star Trek ripoff, thinking, "I have a brilliant idea: Galaxy Quest -- but grimdark!"

That could be the meta story in the story. Nesmith could be upset with a Galaxy Quest spinoff currently airing that's dark and serious with a season-long arc, while his own Galaxy Quest: The Next Generation idea keeps getting shot down.

Nostalgia.

People would actually have to have nostalgia for Galaxy Quest for it to be made for nostalgia purposes. Which I doubt they do, or that 'nostalgia' is the reason why CBS/Paramount wants to make this show. It's clearly meant to be their version of The Orville.

Which is hunting for a fourth season.

I loved the movie and still do but I'm not sure they will catch the lightning in a bottle again.
Damn near impossible to do. I can't think of a continuation or remake (or whatever) that even came close to the original.

Willow was one of my classic 80's fantasy faves. The series was pretty good IMO, but was not as magical as the movie. But that might have as much to do with me being 34 years older watching the series.

"We're all different people, all through our lives...." Perception changes and maybe it's best not to try revisiting things like this.

The premise is a good one, though: a bunch of Sci-fi actors suddenly thrust into the reality of the show they star in. That’s why the film was so good. My concern is how they would be able to make an entire series based around this premise. But if seasons are only 10 episodes these days, they could potentially stretch it out from a two-hour movie to a ten-hour miniseries.
