Nostalgia.
People would actually have to have nostalgia for Galaxy Quest for it to be made for nostalgia purposes. Which I doubt they do, or that 'nostalgia' is the reason why CBS/Paramount wants to make this show. It's clearly meant to be their version of The Orville.
Damn near impossible to do. I can't think of a continuation or remake (or whatever) that even came close to the original.I loved the movie and still do but I'm not sure they will catch the lightning in a bottle again.

Thoughts on Tim Allen's political leanings aside, his presence in the movie made it for me. I've always been a fan of his comedy styling. Home Improvement was weekly must see TV for me.
I thought he was perfect for the role of Taggert.
