    Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I didn't either, but given the way they'd written themselves into a corner by S4, they could have done a LOT worse.

    New Scotty

I don't know, I thought him resigning over a matter of principle and immediately heading straight for the pub was totally in character for him.

I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

Yeah, the way some people talk about it you'd think Alex Kurtzman personally held their eyes open and forced them to watch. And I really don't understand how someone can act like Star Trek having a progressive message is somehow a new thing, unless they've only seen TOS and took it entirely at...

I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

Really? "Everyone lives in a beautiful utopia but there's a horrible secret" is a trope as old as Star Trek itself.

Poll Do you intend to watch SECTION 31?

That's my point really, if you chase away everyone but the hardcore fans, you'll eventually chase those away too.

Poll Do you intend to watch SECTION 31?

Keep making stuff only the fans want and scratch your balls wondering why you're putting so much effort into chasing the approval of a rapidly shrinking base of hardcore obsessives. I keep hearing that. I still plan to watch it anyway, I've enjoyed most new Trek and I think I can forgive them...

What has the new series done to ruin Star Trek this time?

They ruined Star Trek by making the first pilot rather than letting it remain a figment of Gene Roddenberry's imagination forever.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

It's that phenomenon where the perceived audience reaction and the actual audience reaction are two totally separate things.
  9. ScottJ85

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I definitely think it was a better Trek movie than many fans gave it credit for.

    Is it worth watching Disc?

Calling it right now, it will turn out like Enterprise.
  11. ScottJ85

    Is it worth watching Disc?

And fair enough! Love it or hate it, that's subjective, but it always annoys me a bit when people write something off without really giving it a fair chance.

    Favorite Thing About Each Series.

TOS: Broke a lot of rules and really pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on TV in the 60s. TNG: Respected the intelligence of the audience, for the most part. DS9: The way it explored what happens when you push Federation values right to to breaking point. VOY: 7 of 9, the Doctor...

Why the hate for Alex Kurtzman?

Nah, it's a car, not a political statement.
  14. ScottJ85

Why the hate for Alex Kurtzman?

Hell, I own a Tesla and I say fuck that guy.

    Is it worth watching Disc?

Can you please give me some specific examples of this "surface level stuff" and how it differs from other shows?
  16. ScottJ85

    Is it worth watching Disc?

There are quite a few moments where old-fashioned Star Trek shines through.

What's with all the Earth-specific starship names in Starfleet?

Agreed, Starfleet had about a million perfectly valid reasons to shelve Discovery and the spore drive forever, they didn't need to go as far as banning anyone from speaking of it.
  18. ScottJ85

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

New controversial opinion. "People of Earth" was the closest Discovery got to capturing the feel of classic Trek. I mean, a conflict about to break out into full scale war because it just didn't occur to either side to try and talk it out, that's as TOS as you can get.

I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

I find it's easiest to just dismiss Screenrant out of hand without a moments consideration.

In the scene where Tilly got high on the alien planet in the first season, was it suppose to funny?

I got the feeling it was the sort of comic relief that gives the audience a little room to breathe in the middle of a tense episode.
