All the season 4 call backs to TOS didn't really work for me at all. I liked TOS it just never loved it,It was always too dated and campy for me. I viewed it in the same way as the adam west batman,As an amusing artefact rather than a great show. So season four gets my vote

low level shuttle passes would have been far more efficient,They still have working tricorders when they're on the planet so i'm sure it would work a lot better than abandoning the ship for ..reasons
