Star Trek TWOK Blue Ray oddity

I think that's one issue yes. The current conventional wisdom is that somewhere between a 4k and an 8k scan (depending on the film stock, etc.) is sufficient to capture the information.

    DS9 on blu ray?

Along those lines, I just read an article that said in Japan most music is still bought on CD. So I don't think phsycial media is going anywhere just yet...

What Are the Differences Between TMP's SLV and DE?

Pretty sure you're referring to the box set that only contains the theatrical editions. Basically a DVD version of the Blu-ray boxed set(s) from 2009.

What Are the Differences Between TMP's SLV and DE?

I'm pretty sure they pulled out the sound library for ST:VI, it would have been the most recent TOS film when they went to make the DE. It sure sounds like the bridge noises from TUC. And yes I agree I find it doesn't really fit correctly into the scene. I actually feel that way about the whole...

    DS9 on blu ray?

Exactly what I was saying a page back. It's about marketing/consumer expectation, rather then any licensing stipulation. Various FAQs from authoring houses, and major Blu-ray related sites, etc. mention it could be used for standard definition content. ex...

    DS9 on blu ray?

Naw, I don't think so. It certainly has nothing to do licensing. It would be part of the technical specifications, not licensing per-say. 480i is an allowed resolution, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Video Many BD releases port over the previous DVD bonus content and...

    DS9 on blu ray?

I started in on DS9 while waiting for TNG S7 on BD later this year. It's hard to watch coming from such clear, vibrant picture on the TNG BD sets. But of course it's DS9, it's a great show, you get used to it, and just watch the show. It does make me a little sad that DS9 remastered doesn't seem...

New unofficial Making of TMP book

Really tempted to pick this up. I seem to take a long time to finish (if ever) reading the behind-the-scenes books I do have. I'm still slowly working my way through TNG 365, and it took me a long to time to read through Star Trek Action! a few years back, etc. I read it in spurts, and then put...

    Understanding Major Hayes

Uh what? There was a whole squad of MACOs... when he died he named Corporal McKenzie as the best person to replace him as leader in "Countdown". This is never followed up on though.

New unofficial Making of TMP book

This looks interesting: "Return to Tomorrow: The Filming of Star Trek: The Motion Picture," from author Preston Neal Jones and publisher Creature Features. This "long-lost" 672-page book will provide an oral history of the film compiled from interviews with 60 of the film’s cast and...

Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

No probs with that here, you definitely need to look at setting up your TV properly. Check out something like the Disney WOW disc, which helps you set things like brightness and contrast.

    "Planet of the Titans" Revisited

AFAIK, the only shuttle made from razor handles is the little shuttle from TNG when the Ent-D docs at Starbase 74 in "11001001". http://tng.trekcore.com/hd/albums/1x15/11001001_hd_040.jpg Also seen up close in the Reading Rainbow TNG special (it's at 1:33 in to this clip)...

    The Pleasancies of Rewatching

Not a thread here, but Ex Astris Scientia keeps pretty through articles on reused ships/props/etc. They have a bunch of "re-used..." articles here: http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/inconsistencies.htm All series from TNG on shared a ton of props, naturally this is because much of the same...

    DS9 on blu ray?

The VFX were rendered at varying resolutions depending on available rendering horsepower, time, and money. Most of S1 and S2 were done at 480p, complex shots that were deemed needing the increased detail were rendered at 720p. By S3 and S4 all new VFX was 720p, very occasionally 1080p if deemed...

    It's Mike Sussman's birthday!

Very cool to see you post Mike. I've really enjoyed the Enterprise Blu-ray documentaries, it's given me insight into what you guys went through behind the scenes.

Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Well I own the BDs, that's of course not my point. My point was it being broadcast. It's nice to turn on the TV and be able to catch an episode here and there. It also shows there's enough interest out there that a network thinks it matters it secure the rights to TNG-R.

Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Yes... 2 years too late... SyFy UK secured the right to the S1 (and all subsequent seasons) the same year it was released (BD release of S1 was Summer 2012, SyFy UK started airing it Fall 2012).

Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Hmm, that's cool, nice to SyFy in the UK actually be aggressive about getting TNG-R, wish a network would care that much here in the states. The only explanation I have about S2 and S3 continuing on so quickly would be that S2 and S3 were done overlapping by two different VFX companies, so...

Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

There's usually a release window where the season is an exclusive to Blu-ray to promote sales. My guess would be 90-days from now they'll start showing up on SyFy UK.
