Yeah, the way some people talk about it you'd think Alex Kurtzman personally held their eyes open and forced them to watch.
And I really don't understand how someone can act like Star Trek having a progressive message is somehow a new thing, unless they've only seen TOS and took it entirely at...
Keep making stuff only the fans want and scratch your balls wondering why you're putting so much effort into chasing the approval of a rapidly shrinking base of hardcore obsessives.
I keep hearing that. I still plan to watch it anyway, I've enjoyed most new Trek and I think I can forgive them...
And fair enough! Love it or hate it, that's subjective, but it always annoys me a bit when people write something off without really giving it a fair chance.
TOS: Broke a lot of rules and really pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on TV in the 60s.
TNG: Respected the intelligence of the audience, for the most part.
DS9: The way it explored what happens when you push Federation values right to to breaking point.
VOY: 7 of 9, the Doctor...
Agreed, Starfleet had about a million perfectly valid reasons to shelve Discovery and the spore drive forever, they didn't need to go as far as banning anyone from speaking of it.
New controversial opinion.
"People of Earth" was the closest Discovery got to capturing the feel of classic Trek. I mean, a conflict about to break out into full scale war because it just didn't occur to either side to try and talk it out, that's as TOS as you can get.
