I was amazed to learn about the apparent enormous success of Pluto TV recently, when as far as I can tell it's basically a worse version of old broadcast TV (worse in that the ad breaks tend to occur randomly, rather than lining up with the intended points in an episode).Interesting piece in Deadline last week about Netflix's apparent strategy to push viewers toward their ad-supported tier - essentially reinventing the old broadcast TV business model for streaming.
Nevertheless I wound up leaving it on and having Moesha, of all things, playing in the background all day and it's amazing how comforting it was to just be back to having something on that I was half-watching, like the old days. You can see how it's going to expand as a business model.
