Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Just got back from a Fireworks show. It was nice, but I would love to see a Drone show one of these days. The more I'm growing up, the more I wonder if I'm moving past the Fireworks phase in my life. I always loved firework shows (Disney does it best, but the Oakland A's before they moved had awesome shows) but this year I'm starting to see the flaws. I'm starting to wonder if there are alternative means to have a nice show that doesn't make as much noise or is environmentally friendly. Also, in the news a few days ago near Sacramento, there was an explosion at a Firework factory which is completely sad. They are still finding human remains and while I haven't read the entire story, let's just say I'm seeing, reading, and hearing things that are not putting Fireworks in the best of light these days.

As I mentioned in another thread, my city is going to lay off 400 people. My mom works for the city, so far her job is safe. But she wants to study to be a French teacher now. If she succeeds, this going to be the third time in 3 years she changes her job. Teaching is not for her! She underestimates it, and is going to regret it. And then she'll crawl back to the job she has in the city for a forth time now. If I was her, I'd file for an early retirement

I think you should need a licence to let off fireworks other than maybe those that are not airborne.

In the UK it goes mad for around 2 weeks around bonfire night. It is awful for pet owners and their pets, plus its dangerous, most fireworks require a minimum distance between the fireworks and spectators which is greater than most gardens.

Leave it to licenced displays, we get a great view of our local one and its confined to one night and it's far enough away we don't end up with dead fireworks in our garden.

I used to love bonfire night.. But Australia so much of a fucking nanny state we couldn't deal with it properly via legislation but banned it. Fucking pussies. Anything that seems too hard for government is banned.

FedEx is supposed to deliver today and my tracking number doesn’t work anymore. Yesterday it worked but today it doesn’t exist. You know what would cause that? Found a Reddit thread from a few years ago complaining about the same thing but that doesn’t help.

Did your package get delivered?

My middle sister is moving in with my 90 year old mother, so she can live there rent-free. Before that, one of middle sister's kids was living there rent-free. And before that, my oldest sister was living with her, rent-free.

I am torn between being really annoyed that they are mooching off my mom and being glad there's someone in the house with her.

Saw that happen with my grandfather after my grandmother passed away. One aunt lived with him, with her daughter, and then the other.

While it was definitely mooching and frustrating, it was nice for my grandfather. So, a mixed bag but something that could be ok.
